3 Turbo Choices-Help!!

Ok I've been doing some reading but can't really find what I'm looking for. Here's my 3 choices for turbo's and there prices.

14b/16g compressor rebuilt/balanced for $250.00

Big 16g $225.00

T28 Fully rebuilt/balanced for approximately$350.oo-$400.00

Any input would be appreciated.

I'd say go with the T28 for ease of installation, also the 14b/16g might end up costing more than the T28 after you buy J-pipe/ install kit. Just my .02

Does anyone know how a 14b/16g hybrid compares to the T28. It's going to be a daily driven car in the summer with some track time. The main reason I'm leaning towards the hybrid is because it's local. I'm going to be shooting for around 300awhp.

Do yourself a favor and get the big 16g. You think all you want is 300hp which a t28 will give you btw. Then the next thing you know you want alittle more, and alittle more. The 16g has more headroom for that extra power that you will desire later on.

I just got an email from the person selling the 16g and he says that it's a small 16g now......still the same thoughts? Sorry if I'm

Don't buy a small 16G. I used that when I had my old 91 Talon, not the one I own right now.
I had all the supporting mods, and had it at about 18psi and wasn't too happy with it. If you are buying it, I'd go bigger. It'll give you more room to work with. Good thing was that mines came with my car.

I have a small 16g on a car too, they spool up rather quickly, but fall flat shortly after 5K.

With all these differnt turbos, how does it affect spoolup / boost of the turbos?

I ask this because on my other car (not a DSM) I am running a K-27 turbo. I cannot hit full boost in first gear. In other gears (more load and a little longer time) I hit full boost around 4300 rpm.

With the Big16 when will it reach say 16psi in 1st gear (with no tricks such as stutter boxes, etc...when I say this imagin a "rolling start" from 5-10mph).

Big turbos are fun up top, but can be less than fun down low.

Well from what I've read from other peoples posts, there hitting full boost (16-18lbs.) from 3000-3500 RPM's and holding boost till redline. I have a lead on a big 16G so I think I am going to try and buy that one.

WTF! I hit 18psi on my 16g in first. I havent tried any higher because of lack of fuel mods. 16g All the way baby. Except the small 16g. Yes t28 is a direct bolt on but the 16g isnt hard to install. I promise. It will take you an extra 20mins on the install over a t28. There is a good reason why there are more 2g's with 16g's then t28's.

If it is an option, Definitely go with an Evo 3 16g. It is a totally different animal than a big 16g. It hits hard and fast. I was getting full boost (22 psi) at 3200 rpm on a stock 6bolt. I don't know much about the T-28 however...

I love my Evo III. It is a great street turbo that can make some good power with the right supporting mods and a good tune.

I would suggest going bigger, once you get a taste you'll regret going with 14b or T too small.

14b/16g hybrid

What's so hybrid about it? They use the same turbine wheel and CHRA.

If it's a small 16G with a 6cm turbine housing from a 14b, it'll spool very quick but will fall off quite sharply in higher rpms if you have the basic bolt-ons. It wouldn't be much improvement over the T25.

A standard small 16G with the 7cm turbine housing is a good turbo for a fun streetcar, but lacks big number potential and the car will feel slower to you if you're used to the stock T25.

I'd vote T28 for sure here, and I'm not a big fan of the T28.

if that is a case, i would get a evo3-16g. call it a day. cheaper to go slightly bigger and have room to grow than get a smaller turboo and have to buy a new one becaue you outgrew your big t28
