Ok so i just got rid of my old 16 g and got a new turbo from slowboyracing.com which is a 18g compressor with evo exhaust side and evo 02 housing...i got the fuel to run i have 680 injectors walbro 255 fp and a aeromovie fuel pressure regulator and tuning with my SAFC with the 16 g settin fuel pressure at 42 and the settings i had no poping noise... now at high rpm at 18 pounds of boost its pop from 5500 rpm on.... n e ideas? thanks guys :dsm:

Sounds like you are having firing issues or too much fuel possibly. Like said above pull your plugs and gap them down to .28 if needed and check your ends of your plug wires to see the condition of them, it they are still bending smoothly like a new gasket they are good. But if they are alittle stiff, or stiff completely you will need new plug wires. Also check your ignition timing on the logger it should be in the 15 deegree up mark. If its in the 12 and under range you are getting knock and your ignition timing is being pulled, if its in the 9 and under mark though you are getting really high knock. A good timing degree is in the 18-26 range at WOT, if you are getting a steady reading of this your car is tuned very well.

Ok well i cant read n data logger readings right now b.c my brother has it and he wont be back till next month....but the plugs are at .28 havent checked the wires yet.... i got my safc set right now 40% and 80% for high and low throttle and low is 45 all the way across and high is set 45 all the way across also my Fuel pressure regularor is set at 42 PSI with my big 16G it rain very strong and i tuned it without my data logger also wuts good settings for the safc and for the fuel pressure regualor? thanks :dsm:

OK, I'll be more specific. Does your timing curve show any sign of knock with a decrease in timing or a halt ot the advance when this is happening.

Keep the fuel pressure at the stock base pressure for now. Once you sort things out you can use that in conjunction with the afc to pull out fuel while maintaining a good timing curve.

What are you using to monitor your cars tune if you don't have a logger with you? What did you tune it with? Pulling out 45% across the board sounds like a guess and it sounds like you are pulling out too much fuel. Hard to say though when you have no real info to give us. EGTs atleast? If you add fuel does it help...if you have tried?

Good Answer GAP THEM AT .28 solve my problems in the past. Make sure you are accurate when you gap them.

You better get an egt gauge and get that datalogger back. -45 will make the car pop. looks like you need to tune the STFT' and LTFT' and set them back to ZERO. then start tuning from there.

One thing to consider...
The 18G is going to flow more air at 18 psi than the 16G does, you might be leaning out under boost due to the increased airflow. I would try adding 3-5 of percentage points of fuel from 3.5K all the way up on the HI Throttle settings and a couple of points all the way across the LO Throttle side. Good Luck.
Aloha

on my 18g with 550s I have to set hi settings to -7 from 5K up at 20 psi on pump. At 24 psi on race gas 550s were maxed out, its advertised by FP to push 600cfm/400hp (at 15psi like other ratings?, ie. Big 16g=550cfm@ 15psi). Add some fuel -40 to -35 should do the trick.

brought this thread up since I just installed a 18g on my griends GST. I am to start it up tomorrow but wanted to check where to set it at first as a base so I can go from there.
Mods are:
660inj
255 pump
intake pipe(greddy)
open air filter
magnacore 8,5 wires new plugs
3" dp
3" system all the way back
Hallman MBC set stock for now til I get the car running a little better
safc II

HI LO 30/70 as of right now..

So help me out here..what should I set the SAFC at for starters?
HI LO?
% on the charts?

Thanx / Roger

you should start you lo's with -25 across the board and your highs about -30 accross the board then start tuning from there. Make sure you have a logger and an egt guage. I am running 660's and 255 fuel pump on a 20g tdo6. My setting are,

lo 1k -23, 2k -28, 3k -29, 4k -29, 4.5k -29, 5k -29, 6k -29, 7k -29

hi 1k -23, 2k -29, 3k -32, for the rest of the band. My egt's are are at 1560-1580 at the top of redline. Boost set at 21.

started to tune it in now and I ended up with -24 at the lo to keep 0 at STFT. Set the Hi on -25 for starters and the car feels good. Couldnt log it though since the cable to my loggger ####ed up and keep cutting off while driving. Will boroow a friends cable and ask if he can help me out so we can do a real log..hard to do alone :-(Will hopefully have numbers for you very soon to look at and help me out :)

if you are monitoring your fuel trims, you need to just watch both STFT AND LTFT. Just by reading your posts I think you are still running a little rich. Try to bring the lo down to
-27 and then watch your STFT'S AND LTFT'S. they should try to cancel each other out. Unless you reset the ecu you can just go by the STFT'S and try to bring them to zero. Once they are stable and have not changed for a couple of days, do a 3rd gear pull from 2000rpm all the way past 7000rpm make sure you log RPM, TIMING AND O2 BANK 1. OK. WELL HIT ME UP WHEN YOU have more results. Good luck.

will do :)
BTW..where is the link to te tuning guide that was on here before? I know I seen it around but dont remember where it was..anyone know? I thought I would print it out for the guy who will have the car later...so he has something to read and learn from as well.
