I know that I cannot reach full potential without a logger, but I was wondering how close it is possible to get by tuning with an SAFC-2, EGT gauge, in-car fuel pressure gauge, and a Wideband? It would seem to me that, if I can get the a/f mixture right throughout the full rpm range, then it should be pretty close to perfect. I know there is no way for me to monitor or log timing advance or knock, but if my a/f ratio is right then these should be minimal anyway, right?

Well, as long as you have a wideband your fine. You won't be able to adjust timing anyways with the safc, so dont worry about not having a logger.

That will give you a good tune, but a logger is always recommended. Also, if your WB doesn't log both AFR and rpm, it will be difficult for you to tune by yourself. You will probably need someone else in the car to watch the change in AFR and at what rpm it occurs.

We don't want you making a 3rd gear pull at 100mph and trying to look at the WB and the tach. :D

Yeah, that's true. I've realized that I need to have someone else in the car to help watch things. And stuff happens so fast it's difficult! But OK, thanks for the replies, that helps.

If you have a wideband like the LM1 with RPM input you just hit record and give it a run and then check it over either by pulling the LM1 out and going to your pc or tuning it in car with the laptop. Either way is fine. It takes all of about 4 pulls in 3rd to get a tune 100 times better then you ever would using the logger. After that though you should give it a run on the logger to check timing etc.

A logger is very important as all cars are different so you might be tuned to a perfect 11.8 but your car doesn't like that and timing is being yanked, no way to know without a logger...
