Are there any potential problems in tuning the car to run at only 8 Psi? (I believe I read that stock is 12.)

This is something of a repost, but I wanted more clarification. I don't want to glaze my new clutch after the install, but the car is also supposed to get a tune. I've got a logger setup on the way and will re-tune once the clutch is broken in.

You are not going to hurt the car tuning to 8 pounds but I don't believe that the stock wastegate actuator will let you go that low.

You shouldn't have a problem with the clutch as long as you take it easy during the break in period regardless of what the boost is set to.

That's my problem - the car is going to have to get into boost / WOT to get tuned, which means the clutch is going to get romped on to a certain extent. I'm looking for ways to minimize the damage.

Just tune the car for part throttle until you break your clutch in. You can even run it rich until then just to make sure that you don't have any problems. It doesn't take that long to break a clutch in properly and you shouldn't be worried about making power during that time. Once you get the clutch broken in then tune the car for WOT.

Is there a reason that you need to get the car tuned at WOT before the clutch in broken in?

Yes.

Here's the situation. I had a 91 FWD with a beat body. Someone broke into it, stole my UEGO, SAFC, Gauges, etc. They also decided it would be fun to hack the ever-living poo out of my wires.

As I looked at my options for repair it became clear that I would be MUCH better off swapping my motor into a cleaner shell than trying to fix all the wiring on a beat shell. Not only that, but it was FWD and needed a TON of other work. I found a 92 awd w/ a 4 bolt and took the car to my local DSM performance shop.

The clutch from the FWD and 2100 pressure plate are being swapped for a new clutch and 2600 lbs. pressure plate. Once the motor's in I want to have it tuned so that the car is driveable. (The car will NOT run without a basic tune because of my mods. I would consider my list solid stage 1, but take a look and let me know if I'm exteremly far off on that.) Since the 92 was a shell only I want to make sure that everything on the car is running properly before I take possession of it.

- - - Hoping that clarifies the situation?? I'm sure that someone else out there has gone through something similar building a project car??

The car should still run, tune it to drive not for WOT. You dont want to ruin your new clutch.

I agree. The car should still run without a tune on it. I don't see anything that would cause it not to. It definately won't make the power that it's suppose to but like I said before that should be the least of your worries until that clutch is broken in.

The only problem that I do see (now that I look back at what was stolen from your car) is that you are going to need to get another AFC before that car will run correctly. You need to adjust for those 650's that you got but you still don't need a tune for WOT. Just get the car tuned enough to make it driveable and break the clutch in. Once that's done, then I would go ahead and get the car back to where it should be at WOT.
