Steinbach,
I just recently purchased my Talon and started to mod it. When i got my boost gauge hooked up it would boost but when it got to 8psi it stopped. From what i know i am supposed to be boosting about 12 psi at least. So i started to think and then suddenly i realized that the previous owner did a engine swap/rebuild and put a new turbo in it. So what i was wondering was that if it would be possible if when they did the rebuild they put a spring in the wastegate for only 8 psi??(does that sound possible) and if that is a possibility how do i go about changing it so i boost fully. Any other suggestions?

The mods that came with the car were==> UICP, Intake,
The mods i have put on the car so far ==> Apexi N1 Catback, autometer boost gauge

Could be boost leaks. Have you checked? Your turbo may be putting out 20psi but you are only seeing 8.

10-11 is stock. 8 is a little low. I would suspect a couple pounds are leaking out the IC connections or TB seals. Boost leak test!

yeah it sounds like there is a line going straight from youre comp outlet to your wastegate.. thats probably not the exact case bust most likely something similar

boost leak ???? what kind of bov? how hard does it pull. there can be a kink in your boost gauge line had it happen to me. you should be boosting more than that. good luck :thumb:

my frriends 92 AWD talon had 8psi stock, my 91 FWD had 10-11psi stock. so i don't think your the only one with that low of boost with the stock BCS. but like stated above, it never hurts to check for boost leaks and other problems.

there might be a chance that the wastegate is connected directly to the TB("P")via not connected to the BCS. that case you will never get higher then 6-8psi as pressure to WG wont let it(iv used this in my motor break in to be safe) check the BCS thats located right off the MAS connector(air filiter sensor)(its barrel shaped with 2 outles on it. should be connected and connected to the wastegate etc. if its not present then look into pickin one up its possible it is missing when you bought the car(mine was missing when i bought mine ROFL )

This might be silly but it happened to me. Make sure the hose to your boost gauge is not kinked or has a hole in it. Mine was hooked up ok at first but then all the sudden one day my aftermarket gauge wouldn't go over 8 even though the stock gauge was pegged out. When I checked the hose going to the af gauge there was a small crack in letting out air.

Yes it is a stock BCS and it pulls very hard, but i just wanted more boost. It has a stock 1g bov and i have not done any boost leak tests yet because i am going to wait to get my fmic installed because that is where i think im leaking. If its not then i will go from there. But can someone explain that whole thing that i should be doing by the mas with the pins and the wastegate.

A boost leak test only take half an hour. You need to do one either way, plus it would be good to know that your old intercooler is leaking when you put the new one on.

Does it always stay at 8psi through the entire rpm range, like on a 3rd gear pull?

okay so when you have it floored, it should go to 8 psi within a couple seconds and stay there until you let off the gas which at that point the gauge will shoot back down. Is this how it is working? if not how?

And then does it stay perfectly steady at 8psi the entire time you have it floored?

If it does I'm pretty sure you are boosting a normal 11 psi but that is because your wastegate is connected to your turbo outlet which is where the 11 psi is. But then if you have a boost leak somewhere the pressure is lost by the time it gets to your intake manifold which hopefully is where your boost gauge is connected to and will only see 8 psi.(some people report a 2 psi loss across the intercooler so maybe everything is okay) If you connected your wastegate to your intake manifold you would get 11 psi.

But first need to do the boost leak test and if you find no problem, connect your wastegate line to your intake manifold and you can increase your actual boost to 11psi. and/or you can get a boost controller

yes it is stopping exactly at 8 psi and holds strong until i let off, and my boost gauge is hooked up to the vaccum line of the manifold. So i hope this is it, do u have or know of a step by step to a boost leak test

www.vfaq.com might have a how to but it is pretty simple.

you just need to build a boost leak tester with parts from home depot or wherever
then you take off your air intake and put the tester on the intake of the turbo
hopefully you have a air compressor that you can set the pressure to 15-20 lbs.
then you fill up your piping through the tester with the pressure and listen for air and check to see if you are losing pressure quickly

I don't know if your problem has anything to do with mine, but I just cut the boost gauge hose, put a new sleeve on it, and managed to kink it again when screwing it back on. I give up, the boost gauge shows 1 when I know I am boosting hard and about 7 when I am at full boost still.

I can still peg out the stock gauge and I can feel the boost just like you so I know it's there and the aftermarket gauge is about 5psi short because the hose only has a little bit of room for the air to get around the kink.

I got a question do you think i have a boost leak? My car will build boost to 10 psi then it will bounce between 8 and 10 psi while i am at wot.
