Is it possible to tune the stock ecu on a 1991 tsi?

and also at the same time, would a stock ecu be capable of anti lag/launch control. The car does have launch control set.

The car does have launch control set? Your not mistaking your rev limiter im hopingby the way that is stated. You need a socketed/chipped ECU and a tuning program to set launch control and or antilag launch control. Unless you use say an MSD box, which i believe they also have launch control settings.

Just for information sake, DSMLink is not the only answer to a viable tuning solution for 1G's, however it is certainly the most supported and advertised. The Moates Ostrich 2.0 uses a socketed EPROM ECU and TunerPro for it is free, and is only limited to your imagination or knowledge. There are number .xdf and .bin's out there already set up for pressure indexed speed density with native wideband support, FPS control, anti-lag, stutterbox, NLTS, programmable coil-dwell outputs, blah blah blah. To where all you need to do is download them, input your injector size/deadtimes, and you're off to smooth out the tune. However if you aren't willing to actually take the time to learn and do things yourself, I wouldn't recommend it. It's not for those who are lazy. ;)

The answer to your question is no, the stock ECU can not be tuned. You need a socketed EPROM ECU and something like the Ostrich($175) or ECMLink($375 for V3 Lite, $500-$600 for V3 Full).

Edit: Also, to avoid any butt-hurtness I'm not bashing ECMLink. It's a great product, helps a lot of people. Friendly ribbing aside, this post's sole meaning is simply "there are viable tuning options other than DSMLink". Not mentioned is the possibility of swapping to an Evo ECU or a flashable 2G ECU.

There are still floating around but rare the DSMCHIPS. I have a couple floating in my car LOL. I run a Ostrich 2.0. I had my car able to tune soon after I purchased it for less than 200 bucks. Then its gone from there

Thanks for the input guys. Checked it out today fully and it turns out the ecu is indeed chipped.
