tuning my newly rebuilt 420 aftermarket turbo motor

One thing I would change in the procedure you used to break the engine is, is I would change and check the oil more frequently during the first few thousand miles. Actually, I would change and check the oil after the first or second pull. You want to make sure the bearings are being properly oiled.

o2 sensor not detected! LOL. Hey that may be a problem.

1. get an fcd
2. plug in or replace your o2 sensor
3. correct your timing with cam gears or get turbo cams to help with your misfire

awddynamite: I'm so sorry, but you give people advice on a consitant basis telling them to push the limits when they don't have a dyno to play on or the resources like you. Don't get me wrong, you seem to have your own stuff taken care of and well equipped. That does not mean the average household tuner does. Just put your self in there situation before you give them expert advice or start bragging on what you did do. (I mean seriously would you ask the same questions the original poster did if you were an advanced tuner or mechanic?)

To the original poster: Don't insult people that are trying to help you, this is a public forum and when you ask for advice you can take it or leave it, but dont insult an opinion unless its ignorant.

Amen to that. Some of us don't have $16k to invest into 3 motors and 3 trannies. Nor the dyno or time available to tune the car. There's some people who save for years just to afford that motor. Sure, breaking 11's is cool and all, but some don't have money available to blow the motor, and say"well, lets buy another". Let alone finding time to do it and install it.. I actually rely on my car daily. So if anything like that happens I'm SOL.

why not break it in under the same conditions thats its going to be running in for the rest of its life?

Because those brand new internals aren't in the same condition they'll be in for the rest of the engine's life... Things wear and change a little once they break in.

Sorry I didn't jump in this thread before...

There are many, many ways to break in an engine. Everyone's got their own opinion on how it should be done. Me, I took it slow. I changed the oil frequently and kept the RPMs below 4K until I hit about 2,000mi..

Does that mean that's the correct way to do it? Maybe not, but that's how I did. Given the controversy this subject usually causes, I advise you do research and make your own decisions. Talk to local engine building experts and come up with a conclusion. Everyone here will tell you about a million different, contradictory things.

On the same token, everyone's opinion is valid, and yet, to be taken with a grain of salt. Everyone here is just trying to help. I don't want to see anyone chastizing anyone else for trying to help. If their information is blatantly wrong, then I'll remove it, otherwise, learn to make your own decisions based in the information provided here.

Just to stay kinda relevant to this thread; I built engines for a living for, eh, about 6 years (?) and even I'm confused now by break-in procedure WTF . I won't even go into my current procedure (though it kinda mirrors dynomite). Sufice it to say, that you got what you got now, and detonation will be your biggest enemy now (as it appears you already know).

Speaking of trannies ROFL , tell me Trev, what are you breaking in our trannies? Our drive train is a stout little thing (of course over 400 to the wheels changes everything). Curious to see where I will have to strengthen as I go up in power.

And libayz311, just let me know when, on those cams :sneaky: I can offset the cost of the new ones a little. But more seriously, by dialing out some of the overlap in your cams, aren't you pretty much negating some of the power of said cams?

3 MOTORS??? where do you come up with that, 3 TRANNIES, yes i have been through those like butter BUT im also 500% over the stock torque level so i could easily see why.

one tranny the diff blew apart, the second and third the shift forks bent during races on the street, never at the track has any damge occured weirdly.
