Hello, I'm trying to get my fresh Talon to idle and I'm having a bit of trouble, it surges pretty heavily and shows lean, I’ve checked for vacuum leaks and ISC function and both check out, just looking for some more places to look while I scour forums. TIA

Idle surge is cause by air leaking in that shouldn't. First you eliminate the basics like a throttle cable being too tight holding the butterfly open, pressure test the intake (Boost Leak Test) again because it coming from somewhere, adjust the BISS, make sure the coolant lines are connected to the TB.

We don't need to see a video if your DSMLink log, we need the actual log which you can post using Add Photos and selecting the .elg file.

Did you move the idle speed stop screw on the TB or otherwise mess with the TB. The closed butterfly adjustment is critical and what seems like a minor change can make the difference between surging and not.

The data in https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/2g-car-wont-start.548778/ needs to go into your vehicle profile. I assume you are using the 1G head from your swap along with it's intake manifold and TB.

ok i just updated my profile with some info, the log got scrubbed i was just streaming unfortunately but ill do some more logging today

i had a broken BISS so i got a new one and set it to 2 full turns out from bottom

the ISC shows around 30 after its been running for a bit

i dont run the FIAV and dont have the blockoff or the coolant lines plugged so ive ordered the blockoff kit incase thats it

im gonna look at the idle switch today incase something is wrong

the throttle body hasnt been messed with since i bought it which i inspected and the butterfly valve closes properly to me, both sides have a gasket

all availible vacuum ports have a location or are plugged, my summit wastegate might have an open port somewhere leaking vacuum i remembered i need to check also

sorry steve i was scrambling yesterday running out of time to work on it so i threw this post out trying to get suggestions, i appreciate your frequent feedback

I just went thru idle surge on my new build today.

After I 100% verified no boost leaks up to 15psi and fixed all exhaust leaks.

For me after this, I'm 2.4l and ported polished, big cams, s90 throttle body with no ISC of FIAV, I had to 0 out all MAF adjustments on ECMLink. I adjusted the throttle stop open to where I could even get enough air in for it to idle on its own.

Now I had the surge problem like you. Keep an eye on open/closed loop, mine surged everytime it was going into closed loop. I also noticed my O2 wasn't cycling from .2 to .8 like it should. Everytime I hit closed loop it went from stoich to lean. So here's where I tweaked combo of throttle stop and air screw on the s90 to get my AFR close to stoich, and ~.30 airflow per rev. I don't have ISC or FIAV so that's the only ways I can get air (throttle opening and the "BISS" screw).

Once i was closer to 14.7:1 AFR in closed loop (after throttle adjustment) my O2 started cycling. From here it was easy to make minor MAF adjustment on ECMLink to get me around stoich and 0% fuel trim. Now I idle and rev good!

Another note maybe check health of O2 sensor as well. I saw a thread that was the cause of idle surge.

Hope that helps. Once again.....

I would make sure all mechanical is solid. Look at the post for "if you want help from gurus or wisemen with tuning, go thru this first" or whatever. It's a sticky, both of my builds doing that got my car close or running. Like 14 things to check thru from timing to boost leaks etc

I'd recommend investing in compression, leak down, and boost leak testing equipment:) Harbor Freight and Amazon are your friend
