Trying to Set a good power goal, 16g vs fp3052?

Hi all, first off I would like to say I have used the search button and believe I have most of the facts that I need, right now i'm just trying to decide if I'll be happy sticking with a 16g and supporting mods or if I think that I will want to upgrade later down the road, and to just do it now while i can. Here are my goals~
~Make a solid amount of reliable power on stock bottom end and Pump gas (CA, so i guess its only 91 octane) I have a stock bottom end and would prefer to keep a conservative tune. I would describe my goal as around 350-400whp, but really I just want an efficient setup that will kick me back in my seat more than the current 16g on 16psi does~
I just bought this GST yesterday and all parts listed is how I bought the car, and I am aware it is missing some parts that are needed for my goals and it definitely needs a tune. I am looking for opinions and maybe some info that I may have missed, as I will admit I am not the most knowledgable regarding turbos and have never ran anything larger than a 16g before. here is what i currently have~
-B16g
-RRE 550s
-Walbro 255lph
-SAFC 2
-AEM tru boost
-Cone filter stock rubber intake tube
-Stock Exhaust
-Stock sidemount Greddy type S recirculated

I know as it sits, i really should get
-AFPR
-FMIC
-Bigger Injectors
-A better tuning device than the SAFC

So Originally i was thinking, keep the 16g, get the max out of it on pump gas, and call it a day.
But....there is a FP3052 full setup for sale, and i've read some really good things about that turbo. Would the 3052 be too much of a hassle? Any opinions? and I apologize for the extensive post and being a newb with a lot of questions, but i thorougly appreciate and all help provided :thumb:
 
so if you still with the 16g you will be stuck around 300hp.I would get the fp30 if you have money but you will need ecmlink 1000cc injectors and you should make some good numbers.

Can you enlighten me a bit more on how ECMlink works? ive tried reading up on it but havent really fully understood. I also realize i didnt list a wideband but i would definitely need one of those as well
 
Definetly get a wideband like the aem uego and wire it into your ecu for ecmlink.So about ecmlink it is a logging device a tunning device and a diagnosis device all in one.It will run just about any injectors you throw at it but max is 1000cc injectors for pump gas, anything higher then that will idle horrible.I would check out ecmlink.com but you can pretty much dial in everything with the cars ecu and has tons of cool features.Things like the stock boost gauge and check engine light can be used to operate when engine knock is detected also can set temp sensor from the check engine light if it exceeds operational temps.Also it practicly works as a ob2 code reader and can use it to pass emissions by having it clear all emissions check stuff and even if you don't have a cat as long as your 97 and newer where they only plug into the obd2 to scan for emissions and not smog test.It is a wonderful device and you wont have to ever worry about tuning software agian.

Let me correct a few things here.

1. The AEM UEGO is probably one of the worst recommended widebands for use with ECMlink. The Innovate products (LC-1 and newer MTX-L) are highly recommended.

2. There are some injectors above 1000cc that can idle perfectly fine (e.g. my FIC 1150's). Most other ones can be tuned properly by sending them into ECMTuning and getting exact deadtime numbers for the individual injectors.

3. It cannot be used to pass emissions by "hiding" codes from the scanner. It can hide them from your view (i.e. if you don't run a rear o2 and want it to not throw a CEL, it can), but you have to pull the ECU out of ECMlink mode when you connect it to the emissions scanner. Any codes that you have hidden will reappear.



OP, if you are considering going bigger, I would first start with the necessary supporting mods. This will work by helping to make sure your car is ready for the bigger turbo, but will also allow you to pump some more out of the current setup. The 550's are not big enough to max out the 16g. I would suggest getting ECMlink (get your factory '97 ECU converted to EPROM - necessary so you can install the ECMlink chip in the ECU board). Then pick up ECMlink lite and start to learn how to use the program. I would try and pick up the wideband at the same time so you can really start to incorporate that variable into your tuning. Then I would look for a pair of 1000-1150cc injectors.

And I would pick up the AFPR as soon as funding allows for it.
 
Thank you all for the help. I have been trying to do as much research as possible and all of your input is really appreciated. Injectors ECMlink FMIC wideband and AFPR are the current list for right now...once i max out the 16g ill see if i'm happy and ill cross that bridge when i come to it
