Trying to decide on what K HID to get.. your input?

alright.. ive got a 99gsx... 2gb of cousre .. and i cant decide on which k hids i want to do... i want to do the lows and the fogs .. i just want to make sure on which ones before i order them.. what do you think??

i would run the 6K's in teh lowbeams and then the 3k's in fog lights, alot of guys run that setup. looks clean and isn't like every other person on the street with blue hids. Not to mention, once you go past 4300K hid's you lumens output goes down. Yes the hid's will still be brighter than factory halogens but i am talking about the 4300K compared to lets say 10K

4300k is what most higher end cars come with from the factory. I wouldn't go any higher than 5000k (maybe 6000k if I wanted more of a blueish tint) as they'll become more dim. 4300k is the equivalent to natural light.

If you want real HIDs, look into a retrofit with projectors.

Where are you getting colored HIDs from in that a lot do it? Most people don't understand that in OEM projectors the multi-color you see is from the lens refraction itself. Once you go past 5k IIRC you loose visible light distance which defeats the purpose of having projector lights.

Even if you are going with a HID kit, the same still applies.

I'm running a 6000k 35W kit on my bike, it's plenty white, and plenty bright. I wouldn't go any higher than 6000k, period. From behind the bulb you can't notice much of a blue tint, however, staring the bulb down it does appear to have a bluish tint.

If you really want to piss people off, you could go with a 55W kit, and you could technically go up to 8000k, since the higher wattage causes the lights to appear to be a lower K... so 8000K 55W will look like 6000k 35W.

I just swapped my 55W kit (which I was going to put in my high beams on the scooter, until I decided I don't need it, and I didn't feel like finding a place to mount 2 more ballasts) for a 6000k 35W kit that I'm going to be putting in my projectors I got for the eclipse. I can throw up some pictures when I get it installed... for now, here's a couple pix of 6000k @ 35W on my bike.

I have Projectors in my 98 GST with 4300K HIDS and Fogs! Love Em, they look nice and clean IMO!

Actually 55W will make the bulb seem like a higher K as it washes out some of the color.
At 55W my 5000K bulbs are fairly white with a hint of blue, at 75W they are pure white.

alright.. i changed my order to 6ks i also got my 3k fogs ordered... could any of you guys direct me to a link that would be the best in takin out the fogs to install them .. i know its not going to be as simple as the low beams at all.. i just need something to explain the process of getting them in or any of your info please.. idont want to break anyting

It really dépends from kit to kit. I Have 6000k on my truck and they are slightly blue and the 4300k from the same kit are yellowish but that's because it's an eBay kit.

On my gst I have Lexus rx330 retrofit hid with 4300k and they are a very nice white no blue, and the difference is night and day, literally

I don't remember if you need to pull the front bumper off to access the 2 bolts holding each fog in or not. If you do, follow a FMIC install as you would take the bumper cover off. You might have access to them from behind the bumper but it's been a long while since I've removed mine.

Get the 5000k from sharphid.com i just installed his kit on my car and the install was easy ans 5000k is a perfect white light with no stupid color and they have a lifetime warrenty on everything

i put 3k hid in my fogs and they keep blowing fuse. So I guess I'm going to have to get inline relays for them..
With a dsm you D-dont S-save M-money

I wouldn't do it at all unless you retrofit a real HID projector in there...OEM. Of course the light will be brighter if you just slap some HID bulbs in there, but they will blind everyone, and when there is rain or snow there will be horrible glare back. 4300k is the highest light output BTW, and the least ridiculous looking.

People need to stop thinking about bulbs in terms of Kelvin rating and start thinking in terms of Lumens.
Phillips 85122+ is 4100k and 3200lm.
Phillips Ultinon is 5000k and only 3000lm.

You think 200lm isn't a big difference but trust me it is.

I have the 4300 from Sharp HID on my 93 Talon, I love them! I had to adjust the headlights just 1/2" lower in the screen. Sharp HID has been great!
