Hey I want to see some black 2nd Gens with Tint I'm trying to decide whether to get tent or not and what percent.

Remember tint laws in Virginia are pretty harsh...
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Virginia, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 50% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 35% of light in.

I was going to tint my own windows on the daily but when I saw the tint laws and actually purchased the tint, and then found out how little a difference it would make, I changed my mind.

I live in Prince William, and work out in Stafford. I hear they are the most harsh on tint in the areas between Stafford and Richmond, and over towards Va Beach.

My 99 gsx has 20% tint all around, in the ceramic tint that is more of a dark dark brown color than the blue-ish black metallic tints they have available. There's a name for the type but I can't remember what it is since it's been years since I had the car tinted. I can't put any pictures up as I don't think I have any online (maybe some at home?) but I can tell you it does look great. Infinitely better than no tint at all. Only issue I have is that it's dark enough to trigger the nazi Virginia cops to pull me over for tickets, hehe.

Not sure if you have that issue where you are, but I have 35% tint on my black Evo and I never get pulled over for tint in that car, nor has it ever been mentioned when I was pulled over for anything else. I would recommend avoiding 20% in Northern VA as the cops around here will pull you over constantly for it. I minimize that by opening my windows if I see them, or if it's bright enough to open the shade for the moonroof so that there's more light in the cabin, and thus the windows have more light coming through and appear less tinted. Sad tricks but I'm not changing my tint for the bullshit law.

I should also add that I really like the 20% in my Eclipse as I feel it filters enough light for me to feel comfortable in my cabin. I don't like it bright in my car for some reason. It might be the increased light sensitivity I have due to having LASIK years ago though heh. I feel the 35% in my Evo is just not enough, but I need at least one car I can drive without having to avoid cops like the plague.

My car had 20% tint back in 03 but it has since faded to a barely visible tint and i like it that way anyways since i don't daily the car. For a daily, i like tint.

I would do 35-40% all around considering the local laws for you. I tried surpassing my laws and doing 20% and I get bothered all the time. I have taken it off twice already.

These are pics taken a long time ago, I think in maybe 2002. They show the tint at least. Man it's hard to capture the look of the tint on a black car. This is 35% all around.

this is my gst it has 5% tint all the way around. Just got it painted black it was red.

In this picture it looks like you have the rare talon rear quarter! Man I wish I had a black DSM....I'm on my third red one haha.

How could u tell that? i didnt know their was any difference.

5% is the only option when it comes to tint, in my opinion. If you are going to make your windows darker, then go all out. Look at one of my gallery pics, i think i have an old side shot of 5% on my car.

I had double limo all around my car for the longest. It looked great but at night I had to drive around with the windows down because I couldnt see shit. The + side was that you could do anything you wanted in the car as long as you put the sun blocker up in the front windsheild.
I had to take it off early this year because the person I use to get my inspection sticker from got in trouble.

Well, Im getting my car tinted next Saturday. The laws here are 35% rear winshield and rear passenger windows and 50% front driver and passenger. Now, The cops arent to bad with ticketing for 35% all around. At the same time I dont wanna take that chance so I am having trouble deciding what to do. Legal or Illegal.

A buddy of mine has his entire windshield tinted, 35%.

Keep in mind tint will fade eventually so going a tad darker isn't a bad idea. Ive heard some tints don't fade. I just got my Lexus tinted at a place that swore their film will NOT fade. Time will tell.

I got my talon and my previous car tinted 20% at the same place in Maryland and they both faded to a very light tint. I don't mind though, the only thing i find very very disgusting is tint that fades to purple.
