Well I finally broke my non turbo tranny. So i figured i better buy a TRE stage 2. I sure hope that this will be that last one i have to buy. Jon at Team Rip was awesome and dealt with me very quickly and is very knowledgeable. His price was more incredible. Now just time for an engine rebuild and the car will be brand new.....LOL have to love the DSM. Does anyone own a TRE I was just wondering how they shift?

I have one in my 2g for a while. It shifted pretty good. Just felt like a stock transmission. Was a stage 2 and I wasn't too impressed. First time the car wheel hopped and the track it broke the center diff. and put 4 holes in the casing. My stock one lasted much longer than that. They were great about working with me but my current transmission has work fantastically since then. Here are some reviews from other people though on what they have experienced.

I have a stage 3 and its great. It still a bit knochy but it only has about 600 miles on it.

Its a good tranny. TRE tranny's seem to come in very tight shifting and notchy, give it some miles and you'll be very happy with it.

You will always get good customer service with Jon @ TRE. Do the break-in procedure properly. I recommend against the BG II synchroshift though. I run 70% stock gear oil and 30% GM synchromesh despite what the break-in sheet says.

The TRE tranny's are stronger, but they aren't unbreakable. You start doubling the horsepower of a stock 4g63 and things will still break regardless. To be honest, any transmission has to be considered disposeable at higher power levels, built or not.

Did you have a non-turbo tranny on a turbo car? Or are you wanting to buy a built tranny for a nt?

habitatguy187 I have a 94 GS some father and son put it together......the wrong way they didnt replace the tranny, ecu, injectors, resistor box, maf, fuel pump, speedometer, no knock sensor, and they put the wrong cv shaft on the passenger side.......so i definately have a lot of fixing in this old gir. So yes finally going to the correct transmission in her and clutch and see how she runs.

TRE tranny's seem to come in very tight shifting...

I can confirm that. Either that or it's this Red Line MTL 90 (which I vowed never to use again but forgot.) The gear overrun noise is bad, too. I'm trying Amsoil 75W110 or 140 next.

They don't answer the phone anymore and they flatly ignored about a dozen and a half of my emails this year. Bad service I expect in DSM-land, but I'm starting to think I'm on my own if this transmission acts up. It's been in the car 9 months but no more TRE, apparently...

Read TRE's website, he will be unavailable from June 1st thru July 29th.

If you can't get hold of him, then just go to Shep or Jack. These guys are offering competitive pricing and nearly the same options.

Already did -- as I said, over a dozen unanswered emails. I guess you spend $1750 and get no coverage.

I don't need a tranny, I need a guy to stand behind the one I got: his product. If I had to do it over I'd have gone with Shep. Jack's attitude...'nuff said.

Yeah jons cool, got their tranny 1.5 for a great price. It was done in one day, he will be building my next awd tranny with all the goodies. Stage 3 with everything.

I honestly do not know what is going on over at TRE lately. He was pretty responsive up until April, then I didn't get an e-mail answered which was extremely unusual with Jon.

I do know he covered the repair of my TRE tranny at cost on my first failure. He then rebuilt another tranny for quite a good discount.

If your worried about attitude, then you better put on your flame resistant suit once you start talking to Jon. In the end, he WILL stand by the transmission. I almost guarantee you will get berated verbally, but he will stand by his work. If this kind of thing bothers you, then send it to someone else.
