Ok my tools are on my truck and my truck is broken down 4 miles away at a friends place. And my car's broken down so I can't get to my tools to pull the tranny down and see what the he!! is going on...
I picked up an SBR 3500 clutch kit with a new Mitsu throwout bearing plus a new act street lite flywheel. The car was shifting like a champ and suddenly the clutch stop disengageing!WTF ! Everytime i push in the clutch pedal to disengage the clutch, I heard this horrible "metal screaching noise".
I looked into the clutch fork window and comparing my old throwout bearing (which is not shot) to the new one in the bellhousing. and I could see that the part of the throwout bearing that does not spin (the outer shell) was resting directly on the pressureplate diaphragm.
This means that the races or whatever in the bearing have colapsed, right? Why the hell did this happen so soon? I have about 1500 miles on this bearing. I plan on dropping in the old bearing until I get a new one shipped in (I've gotten pretty good dropping and reinstalling this tranny). How can I keep this from happening again? My official Mitsu Factory Service Manual mentions lubricating just the part tht slides on the tranny driveshaft. Should I perhaps lub the TOB itself with grease? I don't think it's possible to do that, right?
