okay i have heard differnt opions about this but i have a clutch release problem and a slight like chattering or squealing noise when i push the clutch pedal in. i have heard that you should grease the throwout bearing but i have never done that before and i suspect that that is what is making the noise and its binding up. so do i need to grease the bearing or not? i just greased the splines on the input shaft but thats it when i changed the clutch.

I'm a mechanic and i've always just greased the input shaft because thats how i was taught, but i also put an act2900 in my car and act gave me a bad throwout bearing and was sqealing very badly. Not something you want to hear after you spend a few hrs pulling a tranny.

I just greased the spline when I installed my ACT 2900. I did use a Mitsu throw out bearing though as the aftermarket ones are junk.

okay thats what i thought. and i did use the throwout bearing that came with my new clutch so im almost certain that is the problem. i got a stage 2 6 puck clutchmasters with a iron flywheel and i just put it in about 3 months ago and gave it the proper break in of easy city driving for about 1200 miles. and now i almost have the tranny back out to see what is causing the realease/squealing problem. so i should just be able to put a mitsu factory throwout bearing in and just grease the splines and i should be good?

i apprecaite your guys help!

yea ive had a very simular problem and still have it. The trans is out and everything looks ok. I used a oem tob. I was hearing all kinds of weird sounds. Im pretty sure i didnt lube up the input shaft, which could be the reason why its making noise. Bunch of people told me not to do that, since it could splatter on the flywheel or the friction disc, but you wouldnt slap a bunch of grease on it. Duh. But anyway, i kick myself for not doing that. Make sure theres no inperfections on the input shaft, that can cause it to make noise also. Do you think it would be a good idea to reuse my new tob, or should i just replace it. Only thing i have is a spec tob. Sorry if i thread jacked a lilttle bit. But its all related ha. Also take a look at the fingers on the pressure plate, sometimes you can tell if the tob is binding up and messing up with your pressure plate. Did you shimm the pivot ball, i did and i think i may have used a to big of a washer, i used a arp. Let us know the outcome. I have simular issues. Just want to see if this helped any. Also do me a favor and make sure all the trans bolts are in and tight.

haha no problem at all and yea i alwya be sure to get my boltys nice and tight LOL. i will let you all kno the outcome when i figure it out LOL. ive also heard that you should use just a little bit of blue loctite on the flywheel bolts?is this true or not? i did not use any and have no issues with that area.

once again and thank you all for your help.

when i did my clutch it was my first one, the way dsms are and with poly mounts. I didnt want to take any chance haha.

The throwout bearing is sealed. You can't get grease into it. The collar has a recess for the application of grease. The splines should have just enough to keep things from rusting. Excess gets thrown onto the friction disk.

o okay thank you. so a little blue loctite wouldnt hurt on the flywheel bolts and just a little bit of grease should be put on the input shaft, throwout bearing, and the splines? just a little bit though so it does not get thown on the flywheel?

yes, also helps you install the imput shaft into the spline portion on the disc.
