Transmission questions!

So I decided to jack my car up today and put some jackstands underneath of it to look for any leaks. I started it up and everything was perfectly fine. As I walked around to the passenger side tire was spinning freely. I forgot that I had left the car in gear when i started it up.

Now, when I started it up I didn't push the clutch in. The car was in 1st gear. Does that sound like an issue? Besides the fact that I forgot to check if it was in gear first.

To add to that I took the car out and it drove fine. Other than my overheating issue.

It's normal. The factory diff is an open diff. Unless you have an LSD in it,the wheel that's off the ground will spin,even if it's not in gear,while running. If it was LSD,then both wheels would turn at the same rate.

Yes,with an open diff,the power is going to go the path of least resistance. If you had an LSD,the car would have stalled,or fell off the jack.

It's the same as a RWD vehicle with an open diff in the rear. If you get stuck,and one wheel is on solid ground,and the other wheel has dug a hole for itself,the wheel in the hole is just going to spin uselessly,and the wheel on solid ground isn't going to do anything.
