Couple transmission questions

I just got a transmission out of the junk yard, it has some old grease built up on it, I was just wondering what I can use/spray on it and inside the bellhousing to clean the old grease off.

Also is there suppose to be a gasket on the bellhousing when I attach it back up to the engine?

Brake parts cleaner works great.

nope no gasket and use any kind of engine degreaser and a small brush on the tuff stuff just dont get water in it
