Transmission question.

Haven't found anything helpful searching so I figure I ask. I'm going to be converting to awd so since the engine is a fresh build i was going to install the tranny/xcase and finish the rear end swap later on. So main question is will there be any problems using the awd tranny not connected to a rear end?

Well, if you are going to run an AWD transmission without a transfer case, rear end or driveshaft hooked up to it, then you will need a welded center differential and VCE, or a stock center diff and VCE (viscous coupler eliminator).

Preferably a welded center diff and VCE in this case.

Then you can drive it all you want in FWD mode.

Down the road if you want to change back to a center differential with a 4-spider conversion, you would want to purchase a new or good used center differential and have the modification performed on it. Once you weld a center differential, there is no going back without complete replacement.

I see. Well what I had plans for was reinstalling engine with the awd transmission and transfer case and once the engine is broken in to finish the awd swap. Is there any damage caused by not having a rear end connected. So with a vce, and the factory differential alreadly in the transmission that's all it would require? Thanks
