Transmission internal swap to new bell housing help!

Hey all, I had a quick question for those of you who've played with the internals of our transmissions before.

So I have two FWD transmissions, I want to take the internals of one (all good, the bell housing is just cracked in a few places and can't be fixed easy), and put them into another FWD tranny I have where the 3rd gear syncro is bad, but the bell housing is awesome.

I was wondering if I need a press if I was just going to swap the internals, and if there would be a way then to not have to remove any of the gears/syncros from the shafts?

Would it just be easier to try and sell them both and pick up a used FWD tranny?

You don't need a press if you just swap gear stacks (and the rest) into the same generation FWD tranny housing. However you should measure/adjust shafts preload and end play. Here's what you'll be swapping:

You do realize not all internals are the same? have you compared the model number of the tranny and if they are different do you know what the diffrences are?

No I can do that later today. Check the serials that is. I do believe they are both from a 95. But i'll have to double check. I'm just trying to figure out the best option for fixing that 3rd gear syncro for the least amount of money.

Yes thank you. I assumed he knew it must be the same model (and even year to be safe). I should have said this instead of same generation.

If you're comfortable enough to disassemble and reshim why not just fix the synchro? That would require a press etc.

95-96 trans are the same and the 97-98 are the same so make sure u get the same 2ga trans before attemping. Ive rebuilt a the 95 trans 3 times and honestly they are pretty easy. Once youve taken it apart (hard part) pretty simple to put back together. Being your first time taking one apart I would suggest u take lots of pictures.
