ok so i'm driving down the high way in 5th traffic comes up so i put it in neutral and brake. traffic starts to ease im doing about 50 so i go to put it in 4th and it wont go into gear try to put it back in 5th won't go into 5th either slow down and pull over. first is gone second is gone and and the clutch wont disengage. Not sure if the trans just let go or what. any info would be a huge help.

Car Specs:
1993 eclipse
4G63 N/A
5 Speed
poly motor mounts
short shifter
exhaust
hacked air can

same thing happen to me and it was the clutch master cylinder.
But also could be a throw out bearing and if you have a puck clutch one of the springs could have broke

Does it grind when you push it into gear?? If it does, then clutch is not engaging, if it doesn't grind and feels like its stuck could be your short shifter is faulty or improperly installed or the shift linkage is off. The master cylinder and slave breaks down on occasion, have someone look at the push pin at the slave see if it pushes and retracts. If you have pressure at pedal the master is still good. If clutch is still good, worst case scenario you got to swap the fork, pilot bearing, or the clutch which requires dropping the tranny. :hmm:

ok so the shifter has resistance with the engine running but only into 3rd-5th and reverse. no resistance or grinding into 1st or 2nd though. the pedal became very light and squishy. it dose move the slave but dose not seem to move that far. all the linkage looks ok and its all hooked up however, there is a lot of play in the shifter when the its in gear it looks like i might just have a bad bushing at the bottom of the shifter not really sure if thats what the problem is though. i have not checked my trans fluid level, the master cylinder has fluid and is full. is it possible i just have alot of air in the line? not really sure what to check

I had a crack in the hard hydraulic line running from the rubber section off the master cylindr down to the slave cylinder. I didnt notice it until I speed shifted from 1st into 2nd messing around. Next thing I know clutch pedal goes to the floor. I was thinking the worst and ended up finding the culprit after some quick troubleshooting.

Before you tear the transmission apart check everything else! That is no easy task or fun one at that. If you end up taking it apart depending on mileage go ahead and replace the clutch while you are in there!

Ok so quick update.... Just put in a new clutch changed all the fluid. my main problem was the clutch disc itself through a spring. got everything back together and i still have no first or second. however twice today while messing with it it went into first i even drove it around a parking lot in first but after i took it out of first it disappeared again. it feels like it goes into first and second, release the clutch and nothing happens. not sure what's going on now.
