I was replacing a transfer case today and I noticed that there are two transmission drain plugs on my auto awd transmission. One is the bolt on the side of the tranny pan and the other is a flat 24mm plug under the transmission. It looks like the same plug that is on a transfer case drain.

Is there a part of the transmission that I need to drain and refill that is separate from the pan fluid? I've searched without any luck.

I remember seeing this on my GST when I did my fluid change. I just used the plug in the side it drained all the fluid out still. I thought the bigger plug is for a garage if they have a machine with a pump and need a bigger opening for it to get inserted or something. Maybe I'm wrong on that though.

I may be wrong, it's happened before, but I believe that picture is of a 5 spd tranny. The OP was asking about an AWD AUTO tranny. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
