we recently changed the driver's axle on our FWD '96 Talon - and it lost a bit of transaxle fluid, so I got the fluid from the Chrysler dealer and topped it off. Now it seems like it's leaking where the axle goes into it, but when we checked the level is seems fine. But, when taking out the plug it seems like it's built up pressure - something we didn't notice before. Is there supposed to be pressure in there? Seems like there should be a vent to prevent that so that seals don't leak??? If there is pressure, that would mean the vent is blocked? That fluid was $20 a quart, don't want to be constantly worried about it leaking and having to check it all the time!

Yes you need a new drive shaft oil seal. Most people replace it when they do the drive shaft.
Your air breather is clogged. Remove and clean it. Here's a pic of the one on the turbo tranny. Being a NT yours will be in a different place but should look similiar. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/Project2G/How To/trans1-1.gif

ah, it's a breather valve then? we were looking for a tube. Thanks so much. We'll clean the breather and then see if without the pressure if we'll have to pull the axle out again to replace that seal. Thanks again!
