    Hey all,
Im going through resealing my trans and i have a few questions. Im wanting to change the seal on the shifter point on the trans (first pic) and im having some trouble figuring out how.
The second seal im having trouble with is the drivers side axle seal. Is the copper ring a part of the seal? If so how do i remove it? It looks completely different from the passenger seal.

    Any thoughts?

You have to remove shift arm to install that seal. Yes that copper part must come out. Do you have the new seal to look at?

On the selector, there is a seal under the boot. I believe you have to release the selector assembly from inside the trans. The axle seal is different. The copper ring is part of the seal. Since your trans is removed, just use a seal puller:

The other method I have had success with is using a screw through the metal portion using a drill, then pulling on the head of the screw with pliers. This method however, you must be careful doing as you can easily damage the sealing surface on the trans.

    Sweet. Thanks guys!

I thought i did but it looks very different. I must have picked up the wrong one. Ill keep in mind the orientation in the picture. Also the passenger side seal has no specific orientation right?

I was afraid of that I was trying to avoid taking the trans apart. Do you have any picture of what a mew seal for the selector should look like?

Set of channel locks will remove that axle seal. You are assuming the current orientation is correct. Hole in the dust boot goes at the bottom.

Which hole are you referring to? Is it incorrect in the picture?

On the oil seal, there is a notch on the outer ring (metal copper colored piece). There is also a small hole on the rubber portion of the seal.
    Per FSM:

    upload_2015-11-29_18-39-38.png

Install the oil seal flange part so that the 3-mm (.12in.) hole
faces the bottom of the transaxle.

    Caution
Apply transmission oil to the oil seal lip before installing.

The little hole in the seal will face 6 o'clock, and the notch will face 12 o'clock.

This is exactly the type of stuff that demonstrates why everybody should own the factory service manual

Bringing this back! The oil seal (copper part pictured above, second picture) has no part number specified in the manual. Does anyone have any info as to what it is an where I could get it?

Well sh**, I just installed mine upside down. I figured the hole should go at the top.... Guess I'm ordering a new seal.

Will it leak if it's upside down? If so, why? Just curious.
