i took my trans out to fix a freeze plug that was leaking the other day. problem is i have the trans out and cant get it to line up so i can bolt the trans up to the motor.need tips or a real good how to write up. my manual sucks it has more 3g than it does 2g. the details are verry little. any tips would be great.thanks in advance.

That was a year ago I did my transmission. It WILL go if your turn it clockwise,(or anti) first, make sure its in neutral, Being AWD I turned the output shaft, and the splines mated up. You could have someone turn the crank while getting the splines to match up. The transmission jack was a life saver to keep it up in place while getting the pins lined up, after the splines mated it went right on there only a little work to get the pins set the rest was money.

there is only one pin to get in. i have the trans held up with a thick rope and my diy engine hoist. i have 3 bolts on the top in already just need to get the pin in for the rest of the trans to mate to the block.

Well, if your satisfied then its fine. I'm the type of person if I do something and I'm not satisfied, I'll tear it apart and do it again until I am!LOL I've never installed something, and never got the dowels to line up though.

wont hurt to have it out . the trans is all lined up and none of the bolts are binding.

In my search for a new clutch I came across information that suggests clutch damage may occur if the alignment dowel pins are not used. Without the alignment pins, the transmission may seem to be aligned as it sits in the car now, but driving and the high forces of launching or drag racing could possibly move out of alignment enough to cause problems later down the road. This could possibly lead to accelerated clutch wear and damage to the flywheel and pressure plate.

As snakeyes said, "If you're satisfied then fine". But I'm with him, do it right the first time. If there is a chance that a couple of $3 dowel pins could extend the life of my clutch and keep me from having to prematurely remove the transmission to replace it, I'm going to make sure they're in there. The Mistubishi engineers put them there for a reason. Dowel pins have a tighter tolerance than the bolts used to secure the transmission and will more accurately hold the transmission in the proper position.
Just my $0.02. Good luck.
