Tranny [where to get one]

im from dallas area and i need a used turbo tranny.. Anyone have any ideas where i can get one? is there a site online u can buy them from? Ive checked some junkyards and have had no luck.. mitsubishi dealer can get me one but they want 3000$ I need some help! AHHH!

Look in the classified section, you could probley find one there. Did you try ebay, I know they have a couple. I would keep calling around to junkyards. I've found some pretty good deals on stuff. I found a whole 7 bolt engine and an AWD tranny for $200.

Ahhh so you think probably a junk yard will be the best bet? Who should rebuild it, Tre or Shep?

What are your plans. You going to heavily mod your car. What are your goals.

my goals are to heavily mod it indeed. Im about to buy some cams, new clutch, turbo, timing belt, all the good stuff. People laugh at me because im doing this to my 1g dsm but i love it. Its an amazing car and is a beast already i just put eibach sportline springs on it.. but now i need a new transmission and sence i was going to turbo charge it, i thought i should get the turbo tranny... it holds more power for a clutch..

TRE or Shepard trannies are up to your choice really. I've checked into Shepard trannys and for a little over $1000, you can have a hell of a tranny. Thats a pretty good deal. I haven't looked into the TRE trannys that much, so other input from other users would help out too. I've heard good things about TRE trannys. Nothing that makes them stick out a lot. I would have to say that Shepard trannys are more popular than TRE. Depends who you ask. My choice, go with Shepard.

The shep trans that is around 1000 is a basic rebuild, and you need a core for it. I say just find a junkyard one and do that. Sheps trans are awsome.

Well how BUILT are you going to go? Most people over kill everthing, your fwd correct maybe you should think about how much power you plan on making in the future.

No and dont say 600hp or throw out some crazy numbers, what you think is going to be a real number and then you can figer out what trans and how built its going to have to be.

Auto Zone does salvaged parts now and offer a warranty on them as well granted a motor still costs about 1600 but i have a full coverage warranty on it for 3 years, get that from the dealer.

You're not going to need a Shep or TRE tranny even for future mods that would give you alot of power. Consider this: you are FWD and you will loose traction instead of breaking your tranny. If you plan on running slicks and doing a massive overhaul on your suspension (perhaps increasing your antilift so much that you cant brake with out slaming your air dam onto the asphault), then look into it. But enough FWD traction mods to need a tough tranny would reduce drivability severly.

However, if you want to raise your rev limit and get supporting mods to merit it, then look at these more expensive transmisions. They are a great by as your tranny will be hating life trying to shift even at redline.

So what do you want? I say get a used tranny for butt cheap and drive around until you get the mods neccesary to raise your revlimit. Then get your TRE/Shep tranny.
