Tranny spline count

I'm gonna be installing a working tranny in my car and send out mine to get it rebuilt by shep once i have the money saved up.

i know that our trannies came with different spline counts but my question is, are they interchangable? if so, if i had the matching transfer case, would it work in my car? and would a 2g tranny work on my car? (as long as it's awd of course)

i'm mostly worried about the splines though, since i don't want to get another tranny, pull mine apart and find out i can't use it.
