well, first of all...yes, i searched but found nothing that matched what is happening to me.

the other day, i start accellerating (at a normal rate) and at about 20mph i hear a loud 'bang' or 'pop' and the transmission wouldnt engage. I was able to coast into my driveway. So when i put it in R, D, 2 or 1, it makes a whining or grindingish sound. Hard to explain the sound. Anyway, my friend got R to engage once but couldnt get anything again afterwards. Also worth mentioning, when its in P, it can be rolled just like it were in N. Could this be something like the linkage? Frankly, i dont know anything about transmissions. I just need to know what i may be looking at for cost of repair and what possibilities could be true.

Thanks

One simple thing to check is the shifting linkage... its a little bit by the intake of turbos.
Also should be right under fuse box, cruise control box. Have a friend try to put it into gears while the car is off, youll see this little wire w/ a boot on it connected to a nut trying to move.

My upper i/c piping was touching it which caused it to not engage into reverse or neutral.

so check that out... thats a simple fix
