I can't remember exactly when this started happening but it was after I put in my new clutch (Act2100+Act street light FW + sprung 6 puck). Now when I am in gear and decelerating I get this weird growly-grindy type noise. It is difficult to pinpoint but sounds like it is either from the T-case or the tranny.

well now when the car is in neutral there is a pretty good ticking coming definately from the tranny, though it is hard to tell where. Seems to either go away or at least get much quieter with the clutch in.

Also, just recently sometimes when I shift at low RPMs it sounds like my drive shaft "clangs".

I did put in a new TOB, fork, ball, torqued everything to spec...

Is this several problems combined? I thought maybe my carrier bearings could be causing the growling but there is no play in it. Is it possible to diagnose any tranny problems just by taking the back cover of the tranny off?

what the heck is going on here?

Puck clutches will cause horrible coast down gear noise. There is nothing wrong, thats just what they do and it's generally worse in AWD cars.

Any kind of rattling noise that goes away when pushing the clutch in usually points to a bad TOB. Did you put an OEM TOB in or the one that came with the ACT clutch. (last ACT clutch I got came with a non OEM TOB but that was over 3 years ago they may have begun shipping them with OEM NSK bearings.)

I also went to a 6 puck Fidanza 4.3 and have the same sound you describe. Can anyone give an explanation why this noise occures with pucks? My car did not do this with the stock clutch in and I installed the clutch properly with the correct step height so I'm not worried that I did something wrong, just curious.

Thanks

OK, I guess that solves the growling noise mistery (though I don't really understand what the problem is with a 6 puck specifically).

The TOB I got was from ACT but I thought they were shipping with OEM ones now. It had the plastic sleeve on it...Do you think it would be possible to replace the TOB without actually completely removing the tranny, just dropping it a bit and sort of reaching in, would save some hassel.
