Tranny fluid in an N/T 5spd

I researched and most people said go to the dealer for the n/t tranny fluid but they want $15 a qt i think thats a lot spending $45 could i use the pennzoil one or would it hurt it

its a 5-speed the oil is mainly for gear oil and bearing lube also to take some head and disapate it. it sould be fine with 75-90 or what ever oil. syncromesh perferably.

I agree i wouldn't risk it $45 for fluid or 300 for a tranny and the pain of swaping. I had to buy 2 Qts when i pulled the axles. its sucks i know.

Why can't you put the syncromesh in the N/T trannies? Is that on both 1g's and 2g's?

my rommate runs 10-40w in his neon trans which is a fairy close trans but he also runs 382whp and 400fpt daily and solid diff. and he has never had a problem. its been that way for 1 and a half years with about 30,000 miles that way. so you can tell me if it will be fine that way. the manual trans relies on oil to lubricat and cool thats about it.

If anyone can get me a Spec sheet of the above oil, I should be able to look up and figure out any other oils that will qualify. I have fairly extensive gear lube resources, and would be able to find comparable oils.

Any particular reason why it requires the specific fluid?
