ok so i cleaned out my throttle body and re adjusted my tps and i would like to know how far the throttle body should be open?

All the way. The butterfly should be lined up perfectly such as this....

Oh wait...You don't mean how far it should open do you? I'm one drinks to many down sorry...

that can be right the throttle body has to be open just a little when at idle ### i cant adjust the tps to get the TB to close

your right, and 0% still allows enough for idle. I have the logs for proof. I have heard .3% or ridiculously small numbers as they may work, I never had good experience with anything above what I have to run though. You should get a logger.

ya i dont got a multimeter here with me i just need to know how to put the tps on the throttle body then i can adjust it. is the tps supposed to make the butterfly move?

the plate should be all the way closed.
0%

there are other ways for air to get around the throttle plate, BISS and such so it will idle fine,
but the plate should be 100% closed at idle, or close.

ok well i nodiced on the inside of my tps there is a little plastic ring that was breaking off will that affect anything?

No..on the early talons up to at least '93, possibly '94s at idle it'll read about 10% and it should read 100% at WOT.

On the later models it'll read 0% at idle.

It's been awhile since I've messed with my TB/TPS but IIRC the spring tension of the TPS should be helping to pull the throttle plate closed. So no, I don't think it should cause the throttle plate to move.

As far as the confusion regarding the what the TPS reading should be at the throttle closed position, 1G's and 2G's are different. On a 2G the TPS reading should be 0 at idle/throttle fully closed. 1G's will show a small TPS % at throttle closed although I don't recall what the normal range is.

I'm not sure what the plastic ring is that you mentioned but it may have something to do with providing a good seal meaning you may have a boost leak.

Edit: ^^I type slow.

ok this is really pissing me off the car will not adjust now i ohmed the tps just right like you guys say it should read around 5ohms mine reads from 5.3 to 5ohms then i adjust it to .9ohms when closed and put it on the ####ing car and it idles and 3500 WTF all i did was take the TB off clean it, put the tps back on and put it all back together! Someone help ### it is making me really mad.

I didn't see this post while reading the thread. The ring is a spacer on the TB shaft. If it's broken the shaft might have a small amount of play in it and this may cause the TPS to misread the position of the butterfly plate and of course throw off your TPS readings and idle.

Otherwise if you're getting the readings on the TPS off the car, but not once installed, then you may have a BISS setting or a vac leak somewhere that's throwing your idle off. The simple fact you cured the TPS problem just highlighted you other issue. go to VFAQ and ake sure you've got the BISS idle set and the timing set correctly.

Also, something else that could have happened!! Where you careful when cleaning your TB not to get cleaning fluid into the bottom opening on the TB. If you did the cleaning fluid can affect the FIAV. Just a thought:hmm:

i stuffed a rag down in those four holes they got wet but im pretty sure it wouldnt do anything right?

Probably not. The mistake is people spraying too much onto the TB to get it clean and the excess fluid running into the ports. If you had them covered I doubt you got enough in there to cause any damage.

1) I have a 1g, and my throttle says 0% when it's closed, and 100% at WOT. Anything else would make me think something is wrong.

2) Of course the TPS is not supposed to hold the throttle open. You're putting it on wrong! You have to turn the TPS slightly in the direction that the throttle opens, slide it on, then twist it in the direction that the throttle closes and put the screws in. That will rest the sensor on the correct side of the throttle shaft.

I think you should research that statement. Im pretty positive the 1gs are supposed to be set to 10% and the 2gs at 0% I was corrected by a few wisemen awhile back for making this assumption about the 1gs :coy:
