Alright so im testing my TPS as too the vfaq site... and resistance between 1 and 4 is 3k not 5k :( and the other set is not .9k like it says... does this mean its bad or will adjusting fix the 3k?? :banghead:

btw sry i wasnt payin attention and posted in the general forums too someone can delete that one :-o woops

It might be bad, but make sure you're on the correct setting with the DMM. I know that different ones will move the decimal point. And clean up the dirt on the connectors then try.

I assume you've moved it as far as it can go... mine reads 4.5 which I think is acceptable, but a resistance of 3K is probably not good

i actually did not adjust it. i wanted some feedback before i did and the connection seems good one the connectors. so are you saying move it? its not turned all the way i can see some space in the holes i could adjust..

and my tester is a needle not digital LOL

Yes, see if you can adjust it so that it reads 5K (or close to it)

by adjusting im assuming you mean rotating it? i just checked again and its actually reading 2.8k or 2.9k not even 3k I rotated it and i couldnt get it to change at all!?

Am i doing something wrong or is this thing toast?:hmm:

The VFAQ procedure is wrong. Please ignore it.

A 1G TPS should read between 0.48v and 0.52v at idle which is about 10% on a datalogger.
It should have between 3.5k ohms and 6.5k ohms total resistance between pins 1 and 4 and change resistance smoothly as it turns between pins 1 and 2 or 4 and 2.

If your measuring between 1 and 4 it doesn't matter where the throttle is and it's not going to change based on throttle position.

If the measured resistance between 1 and 4 is below 3.5k it needs replacement.

yea man thanks thats the answer i was looking for. i double checked and yea its 2.8k between 1 and 4...

also with the car idling and i unplug the TPS nothing happens, i plug it back in nope nothing, so i think its dead :p

I posted the test for the TPS, it takes all of about 5 mins to test the total resistance (between 1 and 4) and that the resistance changes smoothly without any spikes or dropouts between 1 and 2 and between 2 and 4. If it fails any of those it's time for a replacement.

The adjustment for a 1G is simple, turn it until it reads 0.5v when the throttle is closed.

End of story and all in the FSM.
