Okay I havn't done the timing belt on my car since I got it, was probably over 60k ago, I'm not sure how long ago it was done so I took of the cover to check on the belt just to see if it was cracking or whatnot. Anyway this sucks LOL. So I'm probably going to get the timing belt kit from prostreet and get it changed.

Ummm....I've probably changed the belt on my car 10-15 times, and I know what a bad belt looks like. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with yours (unless u can see something I can't).

i think he is talking about the gap on the right side of the belt, the part where you see the wheel. probably thinking that the belt is worn away because it doesnt cover the whole cam gear or something.

Yeah I am talking about the Gap in the right side, I figured that wasn't good LOL. Maybe I'm wrong. Car has 161k on it. had 90k when I got it or something around there.

Kinda hard to tell with the pics but it looks to me like its missing some teeth off of the belt :talon:

Where part of the belt is missing, 2 teeth there have half of them missing, also a tooth 2 down from those is half gone.

Im not quite following you here. Are you saying some of the teeth are only partially missing??? :talon:

Yes that is exactly what I'm saying.

Heh, I'll hold you to that, I'll expect a full sound video ROFL. Anyway I'm a bit of newb here, is there a easy way to tell if I've jumped time?

Thats wierd. Is there any that are completely missing? It would be a miracle if you didnt jump time. Hell ill dance a jig if you didnt :talon:

you may be dancing, my gf's timing belt had a segment where it was missing 3 teeth in a row and never jumped a millimeter off time.

Well, if you haven't changed teh timing belt when you bought it.. you have over 60k + miles on it... timing belt is 60k maintenance..

Also what I said earlier was a bit of a mis-statement, its not that it covers the whole gear, if you look closely inbetween the two gears you can see a piece missing from the right side of the belt.

Edit: I placed a circle on the belt above to reflect what I'm talking about.

i can tell ya why your missing teeth

the cam gears have a hardened coating on them. after a long while that wears off and those cam gear teeth become like little knives and start cutting teeth off.

ive seen it personally happen a few times. we could figure out why his car wouldnt start it had spark ect..

we pulled the belt cover and there was a handfull of teeth in the bottom of the timeing cover so when you replace your tbelt on a higher milage car mabey a good idea to replace the cam gears or at least make sure they r in spec.

good luck

You know I'm thinking if I'm even going to do this, I may just say heck with it. The car grinds 2nd, consumes oil like I've like hell, blows out blue smoke when cold. I might just say heck with it and try to find another car. I don't know I havn't decided yet.

To anyone who didn't notice the problem: get your eyes checked :p

I would replace it ASAP. No sense playing with fire, right?

Unless you end up selling the car. If you do, tell the person you sell it to that it NEEDS to be changed. Don't be that guy
