My stock turbo on my 98 gs-t needs a rebuild. anybody know where to get one for a good price or can hook it up around hayward area?

the turbo is a freshly rebuilt 14b turbo with no shaft play at all. I'm in hayward

Ahh too bad you're not in the city I would've been able to help you out. What's your vac at idle? Does it seem like you need to go into boost just to get going from a stoplight? Are you getting terrible mpg?

i can't really tell if i'm getting good mpg since i think my gas gauge is acting funny, i'm doing it based on how many miles i've driven on the tank of gas. yea...i see your in sf, i rarely go over there, but i'm always around oakland on the weeknds oh and my vac is steadily at 20

i'm back with the same problem! so about 3 months ago i replaced my t25 turbo with a rebuilt 14b turbo. Since then the i didn't do any mods since about 2 weeks ago i installed a punishment short route fmic kit with a 1g bov, everything worked fine till yesterday. Yesterday i heard the same sound i heard when i had the t-25, like the fins of my turbo was hitting the housing. So, this morning while the car was nice and cold so i dont burn myself, i took off the intake to push around the turbo for shaft play and it moved back and forth a tiny bit. Is this normal? I only put about 4000miles on this turbo, so i'm currently thinking i already need another turbo, is there anything else i should check?

That is normal. A little bit in & out play is fine. Up & down shaft play is not good if it is excessive. Where are you feeding the turbo from oil wise, OFH or the head? Did you bend the coolant lines from your t25 or did you have coolant and oil lines attached to the 14b when you bought it? What does your boost gauge say when you get on it?

well i ordered the extreme psi 14b/16g turbo install kit and brought it to a friend's shop to get it installed, when i'm on it, my boost gauge reads 11psi, i just pushed the shaft forward and backward i forgot to try to push it up and down...i'll try again maybe tomorrow or tuesday if i have time to see if the shaft is going up or down

ok so i finally had the time to check out the turbo, there is a LITTLE bit of play from left to right but not top to bottom, but it only has like 3000 miles on this turbo...anyway what could be the issue? also, is it normal if im not boosting and only gassing it a little the 1g bov makes the whine sound?
