I am running 17psi on stock turbo.....My main mods are intake 3in downpipe and exhaust i was just wondering if 17 is to high for stock turbo any help would be great thanks!

I defiantly wouldn't go higher without AT LEAST rewiring your fuel pump.

Just got the car a few weeks ago and i just started watching the boost gauge.....I am not sure if the owner before me did that or not is there anyway to tell?

If its the stock T25 turbo, I wouldn't have boost that high. The stock 2g T25 is almost maxed out at the stock boost of 12-13psi. Anything over about 15-16psi & your just making heat. I would imagine you have the stock intercooler, what about stock BOV? I would also imagine you have no way to monitor the car (ie to know if its knocking?). So at 17psi you have a turbo's that making lots of heat, a stock IC that doesn't do that good of a cooling job, if a stock BOV its probably leaking as well, making the turbo work even harder & makeing even more heat & to top it all off, no method to montior what going on. This can be a good way to damage things.

I'd set boost to 15psi & if you have a stock BOV & haven't done so yet, do a boost leak test to see what kind of pressure your BOV is starting to leak at.

Yes its stock turbo set up..The bov is not stock....so should i buy a boost controller and turn it down? is there a way to turn boost down without buying a controller?

A boost controller doesn't allow you to reduce base boost pressure, it only allows you to increase. 17psi is not normal boost for a 2g so something has probably been modded already. It may already have a boost controller, which you should be able to be turned down. Is it still a stock wategate?

With a line run driect from a pressure source to the wastegate, you should see something around 9-10psi. With the BCS still hooked up (stock configuration) you should see around 12-13psi. If your boost is higher then that, then somethings been done like a modded/upgraded WG or already has a boost controller, etc.

i agree with the guy above -- turn it down to 15psi and start saving up for a bigger turbo -- right now your just superheating your sidemount IC and your gonna burn out that t25 turbo real quick

turn it down to 16 or 15 psi and it will tapper down to about 13 or 14 after 5k rpms because it cant keep the flow going

look up all the supporting mods for the bigger turbo and have fun

yeah theres no boost controller on it and the wastegate looks stock is there a way to turn it down with out one? or should i buy a manual one?

My guess is the guy that you bought it from either replaced the spring inside the wastegate, or modded it. I've been running 17 psi on my T25 since I bought the car, and haven't had any problems what so ever. I've heard many people say that 16 psi is max for the stock setup. The T25 can hold it no problem, but I would recommend upgrading your fuel pump, injectors, fuel rail, and intake manifold to account for so much boost.

Yeah i plan on upgrading the fuel system before i do anything to the car...this is ###### a stupid question but after upgrading the fuel pump, injectors and rail would i have to get it tuned?

No. You do not need a fuel rail... unless your building for more than 500hp. No you do not NEED a tune after installing a fuel pump or rewiring it. Putting in bigger injectors, you will need a tune. But you are no where near needing injectors yet. Your still rocking the t25, I've never heard of anyone starving the motor of fuel because of a t25 pushing 17 lbs.

Check the site a bit, look around, and read the vfaq for 2g upgrades. It will tell you EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO UPGRADE. Next, SEARCH the forums & that will answer ALL your OTHER questions.

I hope to NOT see more questions being posted about information you could of easily searched. Welcome to the site, I was a noob once upon a time with a STOCK 2g. Check my mods & pix, I've come a long way.

Thanks will do..:thumb:

Sorry, should have clarified. 17 psi won't need any upgrades, but if you want more boost you will need those to safely do it.

Also, as we all know with DSM's, if you aren't sure if you need a tune, you probably do. hahahahaha.

This seems strange as you shouldn't be seeing that kind of boost on a stock WG without a boost controller. If the BCS is still hooked up like I mentioned, should only see 12-13psi, so something up. No you can;t add a boost controller to reduce boost, boost controllers only allow you to increase boost. Are you sure your boost gauge is accurate, maybe your not actually running 17psi? (just because its new, doesn't mean its accurate)

I think it might be my gauge...it hits 17 every once and a while and other times it hits only 13 so im thinking the gauge might be off

You may just be boost spiking at 17 psi, i dont think that necessarily means your boost is set at that point. It most likely is set to 12-14 such as stock, but your spiking higher. What RPM do you start seeing 17 psi? What does it look like at 3-4k?
