I defiantly wouldn't go higher without AT LEAST rewiring your fuel pump.
Pull up the back seats and see if there is a larger wire going to the fuel pump.
If its the stock T25 turbo, I wouldn't have boost that high. The stock 2g T25 is almost maxed out at the stock boost of 12-13psi. Anything over about 15-16psi & your just making heat. I would imagine you have the stock intercooler, what about stock BOV? I would also imagine you have no way to monitor the car (ie to know if its knocking?). So at 17psi you have a turbo's that making lots of heat, a stock IC that doesn't do that good of a cooling job, if a stock BOV its probably leaking as well, making the turbo work even harder & makeing even more heat & to top it all off, no method to montior what going on. This can be a good way to damage things.
I'd set boost to 15psi & if you have a stock BOV & haven't done so yet, do a boost leak test to see what kind of pressure your BOV is starting to leak at.
A boost controller doesn't allow you to reduce base boost pressure, it only allows you to increase. 17psi is not normal boost for a 2g so something has probably been modded already. It may already have a boost controller, which you should be able to be turned down. Is it still a stock wategate?
With a line run driect from a pressure source to the wastegate, you should see something around 9-10psi. With the BCS still hooked up (stock configuration) you should see around 12-13psi. If your boost is higher then that, then somethings been done like a modded/upgraded WG or already has a boost controller, etc.
My guess is the guy that you bought it from either replaced the spring inside the wastegate, or modded it. I've been running 17 psi on my T25 since I bought the car, and haven't had any problems what so ever. I've heard many people say that 16 psi is max for the stock setup. The T25 can hold it no problem, but I would recommend upgrading your fuel pump, injectors, fuel rail, and intake manifold to account for so much boost.
Yeah i plan on upgrading the fuel system before i do anything to the car...this is ###### a stupid question but after upgrading the fuel pump, injectors and rail would i have to get it tuned?
No. You do not need a fuel rail... unless your building for more than 500hp. No you do not NEED a tune after installing a fuel pump or rewiring it. Putting in bigger injectors, you will need a tune. But you are no where near needing injectors yet. Your still rocking the t25, I've never heard of anyone starving the motor of fuel because of a t25 pushing 17 lbs.
Check the site a bit, look around, and read the vfaq for 2g upgrades. It will tell you EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO UPGRADE. Next, SEARCH the forums & that will answer ALL your OTHER questions.
I hope to NOT see more questions being posted about information you could of easily searched. Welcome to the site, I was a noob once upon a time with a STOCK 2g. Check my mods & pix, I've come a long way.
yeah theres no boost controller on it and the wastegate looks stock is there a way to turn it down with out one? or should i buy a manual one?
