Tire Size Recommendation Request

Your math looks close. I get 3mm less radius but that's probably due to rounding. Either way you probably splitting hairs with the clearance. I would try them but be prepared to get 5mm spacers and longer studs.

And sorry Chavez. I can't respond to 1g tire questions but I was hoping someone else would help you.

Hey guys
I am wanting to buy wheels and tires within the next day or so, and I have a couple questions. I am looking at the 5zigen fn01R-C wheels.
I want 17" diameter but I dont know whether an 8 or 9 inch width would be best or what offset. I would like to run falken rt-615 tires, but I am totally lost on the best size. I would like to go as wide as possible without too much modification. I have tein coilovers with about a 2.5 inch drop but I would raise it as necessary. Could some of you handling tech experts help me out?

TIRE SIZE RECOMMENDATION REQUEST FORM

Please answer the following questions when requesting tire size recommendations.

1. My car is a:
b) 2g DSM

2. My wheel size is:
Diameter: _____17
Width: _____8 or 9
Offset: _____?

3. My current or future suspension height will be lowered
c) 1.5 - 2 inches

4. If suspension is lowered,
a) Rear camber will be adjusted to less than 1° negative.
...but I am sure I will have to do something about that.

5. Rear fender flange rolling:
a) My fenders are rolled or will be if necessary.

6. My driving style is:
b) Street, but I like to feel secure on twisty roads.

7. I have searched for and read the FAQ's, Tech Articles, and threads on wheel and tire fitment:
a) Yes, but I just need someone with experience to validate my choices.
....I think I just confused myself by staring at a computer screen for too long LOL.

Thanks for your help
Justin

8 or 9 width is personal preference, they'll both fit. The nines will bulge a bit. 245/40/17's ar the size tires you want. Keep the offset clsoe to +40mm though you'll have some space on either side with those tires. Offset could go as high as +45mm, but you won't want to go much less.

Thanks,
That helps out a lot! That is what I was quessing on the tire size but I didnt want to order the wrong ones. Wheels and tires should make a nice addition along with my new JMF SMIM and fp race manifold :thumb: Hoping for 450whp+!!
Thanks again,
Justin

The deal is, a friend of mine has some Volk TE37s in a 17x8.5, 114.3x5, 50mm offset, and it's too good of a deal to pass up. The car is currently sitting on Progress Technology 1.7" lowering springs, and KYB AGX struts. The springs were not my choice, they were on the car when I bought it. I have a stock 2G AWD suspension waiting to go n the car. I will have the camber adjusted to whatever it needs to be, and will have the fenders rolled if need be. I am a noob to wheels, so I'm not sure how the offset works, and if I'd need spacers or not. From what I've read, I think I would to the tune of 8-10mm. Is this correct?

I'd really like to know how well they would fit with the current lowered suspension setup as well as with the stock 2G suspension setup, and what size tires would be best for either setup.

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: If it means anything, the current wheel setup is Enkei 5+ (17x7, 40mm) wheels, with Hankook Ventus HRII 215/45ZR17 tires.

225/45/17 would fit without a spacer.
235/40/17 would probably fit as is but they're a little small.
235/45/17 will require at least a 5mm spacer.
235/40/17 might fit with a 5mm spacer but closer to 10 would be better.

You won't need to roll the fender with 225's.
You might get by without rolling fenders with the 235's, especially with a smaller spacer.
You'll need rolled fenders with the 245's

Okay, the rims Im interested in are the 5zigen FN01 RC

Cars lowered with AGX and eiback pro's, i figure about 1.2 or 1.3 in drop...alignment is within factory spec.

The rim comes in 2 forms: 17x7 42 offset and 17x8 43 offset

I just need to confirm if I can use a 235/45 tire with EITHER of these sizes?? Will a 235 tire work with a 17x7 42mm offset?

I'm pretty sure a 235 tire will work with the 17x8 43mm rim, but it may stick out a bit?

Any help and info is much appreciated! Thanks

I've got a 2g GST. I was looking into a set of rims that are 18"x8" with a +38mm offset. The tires I was thinking about getting on them would be 245/40/18's. I do have options to get 225/40/18's and 235/40/18's as well.

I've got stock suspension, and really don't have any plans on ever lowering unless I can't get around it when it comes time to upgrade due to wear and tear. As such, my fenders aren't currently rolled, and I'd like it to stay that way if possible.

What would be your recommendation on tire size based on this info? I took a look at the new graphs that you guys put together, but these kinds of things are definetly not my strong suit.

Thanks

--edit--

Would it help or hurt to get an 18x8.5 instead?

From the FAQ's

Although many of us have run 245/40/18's, you'll see from the table that they really are too big. Even with stock suspension height, I don't think you will tuck them past the rear fender flange without rolling. Your 2nd and 3rd choices have a much better chance of fitting without fender mods.

ps. Wheel width makes little difference.

Thank you! I guess my only remaining question would be, if I went with the 225's, would 15mm be enough for piece of mind when it comes to the fenders? I'm not familiar with how much travel there is in the suspension when a car hits a bump. I'm guessing that the older the suspension, the more travel.

Suspension travel is limited by the bump-stops, which normally allow the tires to tuck well inside the fenders. The table is based on a reasonable amount of suspension lowering and corresponding camber adjustment which decreases fender clearance. On a stock suspension there would be more clearance, so yes, I believe you would have plenty of room for 225's.

TIRE SIZE RECOMMENDATION REQUEST FORM

Please answer the following questions when requesting tire size recommendations.

1. My car is a:
b) 2g DSM

2. My wheel size is:
Diameter: 18
Width: 7.5
Offset: 35

3. My current or future suspension height will be lowered
None but possibly in the future enough to close wheel gap.

5. Rear fender flange rolling:
b) I will not roll the fenders.

6. My driving style is:
c) Street and Strip.

7. I have searched for and read the FAQ's, Tech Articles, and threads on wheel and tire fitment:
a) Yes, but I just need someone with experience to validate my choices.

I just want to know the best tire with out risk of rubbing. I want a maximum width with the 18" wheel but if its to much of a risk ill drop to a 17.

Will that all be fine if in the future i want to drop it a little. Not super low just enough to close some wheel gap with full coilovers?

1. My car is a:
2g DSM '96

2. My wheel size is:
Diameter: 15
Width: 7
Offset: +43mm

3. My current or future suspension height will be lowered
I have a full coilover setup so it can be raised or lower to sit and clear.

4. If suspension is lowered,
Front and Rear camber kits are also going on the car not an issue that can be set to where it needs to be at.

5. Rear fender flange rolling:
Has not been done as of yet but can be not a problem.

6. My driving style is:
c) Street and Strip. (currently have a set of 24.5x8x15 MT slicks mounted on the volk te37s 15x7 +43mm they clear just fine on gsx calipers not an issue just looking for a drag radial for street/strip usage.

7. I have searched for and read the FAQ's, Tech Articles, and threads on wheel and tire fitment:
I guess i was just missing it. if its there sorry but i haven't found what i'm looking for to fit on 15x7 wheels.:D

I need to get rid of my heavy ass 19x8 axis se7en wheels and Marti at VIP garage offered me a really good deal on some 17x9 Rota -hyper silver- P45r's but I need to know what offset I need to make them fit right with some really wide tires (255+) for best possible traction. My car is a weekend warrior that I may use to drive to work occasionally during the week as well as to the track on weekends for drag and road racing. I have eibach pro-kit springs and tociko adjustables, so my ride is lower and stiffer than stock. I dont mind rolling my fenders if necessary and I dont mind if the wheels stick out from the wheel wells a little, but I don't wanna use spacers if it's gonna make my car look like a skateboarded ghettomobile. Anyone know the offset I need and max tire size I can get away with?
