so what size 225 should i put on i need to buy tires soon my car is coming out after a 6 month rebuild. if i can't put on 235 its ok i'll buy new rims and tires next year these would be my winter rims.

i need to know what size tire i should buy thanks for the help guys you saze me time and money.

ok the wheels im looking at a 18X8's with a 38 offset so they should fit fine. But i want to get the right tire size. Is 225-40-18 or 225-45-18 what i want? I dont know if ill ever lower the car but if i did it wouldnt be anymore than 1". Its also a 95 gsx by the way.

It's good that you got an 8" wheel instead of 7" like most of the guys on here. With that width and offset, a 225 would be a waste. A 235/40-18 is very close to the stock diameter and will give an accurate speedometer reading. Use the link below to decide. Plug in your stock tire specs, and then play around with the new tire width and sidewall on the 18" setting until the diameters are close. It tells you at the bottom how accurate the speedometer is, of course you should shoot to get it as close to 0% as possible. Once again, a 235/40-18 is very close to the stock size.

When you lower with the wider tire, watch out for the fender hitting the tire, indicated by a nice groove running around the tire. Should only be an issue on bumps, but something to keep in mind when choosing a tire size and suspension.

Here is my main problem... I am buying new (read: lighter) rims. I am sticking with stock size, 17". I would go 16's but they wont clear my brakes. I have already decided I want the Falken Azenis RT-615 Tires but they dont have it in a 245/40-17. So my options are 225/45-17 or 255/40-17. These are going on 17-8" rims. The 255's would be badd ass and put alot more rubber on the road, but damn! Are they going to fit?
Thanks in advanced for any help!

TIRE SIZE RECOMMENDATION REQUEST FORM

Please answer the following questions when requesting tire size recommendations.

1. My car is a:
2g DSM

2. My wheel size is:
Diameter: 17"
Width: 8"
Offset: ? I have not ordered them yet, you tell me!

3. My current or future suspension height will be lowered
One to 1.5 inches, I have K-Sports and there is a 2 finger gap all the way around.

4. If suspension is lowered,
a) Rear camber has not been adjusted at all.

5. Rear fender flange rolling:
I dont know how to roll the fenders, but if it is easy I will do it.

6. My driving style is:
Street and Strip. PT6776 and e85 car. I should hit 650whp no problem... It is mainly a drag car that I drive around on the streets alot.

7. I have searched for and read the FAQ's, Tech Articles, and threads on wheel and tire fitment:
Some.

I would suggest you do some more reading and searching. The answers to your size and offset questions can be found buy reading the DSMTuners Suspension FAQ as well as these threads:

I would also suggest taking a look at Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 that are available in both 245/45 and 245/40 sizes. They have the same treadwear, and similar (some would argue better) grip for the money (both Hankooks are cheaper than both sizes of RT-615s you mentioned). Plan on getting wheels with an offset of ~35mm (as explained if you read some of the threads posted above)

I currently run 245/40 17 tires on 17x8 wheels with +38mm offset.

I would stay away from 255/40 tires unless you plan on rolling your fenders and buying a wider wheel (17x9, ~ +25mm offset), or you are very good friends with whoever it is that will end up trying to mount 255/40 RT-615s or your planned 17x8 wheels.

I'm biased, but Kuhmo MXs SUCK ASS. I have so many horror stories with that tire, it's not even funny.

Honestly, if your car is going to be making the power you say it is and you plan on drag racing, why not just get some Nitto drag tires like the NT 555-R?
They are DOT street legal

I cant find the Nitto 555R's in the sizes discused above.

The RT-615 come in 235/40/17 tire. It may be a little smaller diameter but they are a bit wider.

if you want a drag grip tire..don't get the 555r..they are the worst of the drag radial series. next is the bfg drag radials...the top of the line would be the mickey tompson et streets. best drag radial imo...and they grip!

I looked at BFG, Mickey T's and Hoosiers... none of them have sizes that fit my application
I think I am going to stick with the 615's untill I get stock brakes up front again so I can run a smaller wheel with slicks... Right now I have the 13" Baer Track kit so I have to keep a 17" rim.

We have Kumho MX on my GSX in 235/45/17 on a 17X8 -35 wheel and they are great.
I have been on them for a couple of years now. We also have them on our WRX. My personal experience and that of posters on the autox list is that it is a great tire, especially for the price. My only caviat would be that they go away when it is cold and wet.

To answer your thread title of what will fit...anything as narrow as a 205 and as wide as a 255 will fit on those wheels.

I would personally go with a 225/35/18

Actually 225/35-18's are much smaller diameter than stock. 225/40-18 is closer. Do your own math here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

And unlmtdndeavor, my pointer hovered over the negative rep point button for that one. There are good reasons why some people would want to use smaller tires, such as torque gains for autocrossing, but for street cars the narrow sidewall and wheelgap would be unacceptable. What brand of 255 width tires do you know that specify a wheel as narrow as 8 inches?
