2G Tire size on 17x8

Hello I'm going to be buying motegi traklite mr131 in bronze. They are 17x8 with a 40 offset.
I'm looking at doing a toyo r888. and another summer tire. Do you recommend 225/50/17 or 225/45/17 or any other size. It's a 1997 Gsx. It's awd and don't want to mess anything up

245 sections should fit fine. Go 245/40. Drag car? as long as the same tire and wheel is on all four corners your center diff will be just fine.

Would you stay with a 45 or 50. Sorry I'm new to this I think stock are 50. And would the toyo r888 be fine in a 235/45. With no problems. Thanks

Is it drag or autox or what? the tires all need to be the same diameter to keep the diff happy. Go wider wheels. I'm on evo 8 enkeis running 245/45/17 no rubbing whatsoever its a street car

I wouldn't use 888s as a drag tire since there are better options. Sidewall is too stiff IMO Great tire when warm though for canyons. Get taller sidewall in the drag tires you go with and go 17x8.5 wheels with a 245/45 or even 245/40 depending on if you want steering response or better ride. Maybe go wider. do it once and be done.

That's a bit wide for comfort, you'll most likely rub depending on the suspension setup. I'm currently running 17x8 +38 offset with Continental summer 245/40 tires. Excellent tire for the street.

17x8.5 +38mm is what I'm on with 245/45/17s. For street AND drag duty the 888s would do the job if you still want to be able to go around corners at speed. Otherwise M&H Racemasters come to mind. Continental extreme contact DW's are fantastic all round street tires. Are you getting 2 sets of wheels or what? Big wheels are no good for drag racing. Not enough sidewall.

These do look like a great tire for the price. The $100 rebate would make them about $85 a piece! Was looking at the RS-3's or Potenze RE-11's but for a street tire, these evo2's should do the trick! Will be getting radials for drag mounted on stock GST rims.

OP- After all my research, I am going with 245/40/17. I am using the EVO lX rim which is 17x8 +38mm offset.

Ya and even have them on Amazon for free shipping! Would have used tire rack but they charge for shipping to Hi now so lame. Was to my door in Hawaii in 3 days haha. So for me it was a no brainer they have a way better tread rating than the re-11's and rs-3's, and cheaper

Tire Rack has a distribution center that is 30 minutes from my house so I can pick them up same day! I Wonder how they would fair on a 10 second run or a fast autox run? They do have good reviews from people using them for street/occasional track days so what the heck.

I'm using them for autox so far and will be drag racing soon too. and so far they blow away my old set (version 1 of the ventus evo). Cornering way faster than before and just feel so much more planted. I did a few runs last Sunday at our autox and right away could feel the diff from my last set. Was like 1 sec off my friends 06 Sti, he's running the re-11's and has way more suspension done so I was pretty stocked. I also went from a 9" tire to 9.7" so that really helped. We have a autox next Sunday I'll let you know how I do compared to others. And my buddies evo is actually a 10 sec car, well was when it was in Vegas I guess. He's only managed like 11.4 or so here. He ran 11.4 on drag radials and 11.6 on the hankooks . Would love to see what he could pull with the new version.

You will likely to roll the rear fenders at the very least on a 2g. Results will slightly vary between tire manufactures as well. a 245 is the widest you should go on an 8 in wide rim.

I would bet on having to roll at least the rear fenders as previously stated. You do not have a profile for your car, as you have left out your suspension setup. At the stock ride height, I had to roll the rear fenders only on a 245/40/17 Dunlop ZII on a 17 x 8 with a +38 offset.

Car is stock suspension now but will do coilovers hopefully this year if not next year.

I have to roll my rears with my 40 offset 17" RPF1s i have 245s all around. Plus add a spacer 5mm
