Tried searching and came up empty

This is a 3000GT VR4 track car with about 1000-1100 HP Crank
26X10.5X15" MT ET Drag slicks

What pressure do higher HP AWD DSMs have luck with?
It's kinda off not being able to heat them up like on my FWD track car.

Moved to the drag race forum, you may have better luck here.

12-15psi will be good. I will run 13psi on my fwd with slicks, and they will be 26x8.5x15.

at 15.5 I spin down the whole track.

I tried 12 last night at darlington, humidity was 97% as shown on the tracks weather station, and dew was settling on everything. Track was bad. Spun all the way down the track. AEM log showed 8 times on and off throttle. only managed 11.1 @ 124

the car has run 10.33 @ 143 on 28psi and 1.87 60 ft

I am on 17" rims with a 26x11.5 and I keep my tires at around 11 front and 10 rear. In order to answer your question w/ and educated responce though.... I would like to know the MT part number of the tires you are using. At least the tread compound, and weight of the car.

You may really want to take some consideration to the idea of limiting boost in first and second. This may sound out there, but it works.

Great times for a 3/S by the way! I really dont want to come off the wrong way either, but I could have sworn that I say another one in the 9s. If Im wrong sorry, but I just noticed the "fastest in the world" part in your sig.

Lets see what that car does with a good 1/8th, keep us posted.

Hmm... Topstreet has a point here. You probably need to limit that power a bit through the early stages. Are you at least 2 stepping out of the hole? You may want to do a limiter with a two step and pump in full blast in 3rd. I presume you are spraying? You aren't spraying early, are you? I'm not downing on you or anything (I'm impressed with your ride) but 1.87 60' on a AWD (even a heavy one) seems a little high. You are probably just spinning through the launch.

But hell, what do I know, my current endevour is running all of 170 whp, :p !

Yes, but AWD and FWD tire pressure's differ from each other. When Dan still had his FWD Laser, we found the best tire pressure to run on his slicks was 9 psi. At 15psi, he was cutting 2.1 60 ft. times. At 9psi, he was cutting 1.7 60 ft's and he was spinning much less coming into 2nd gear.

I dont have any info on what is best on an AWD with slicks, but for a FWD, 13-15 psi was way too much for us.

Imp Pwr Online - Great looking 3/S, BTW. :thumb: :dsm:

You have a very good point that you are touching on. Slicks are funny because they have a variable most people are not used to. Flex.... This makes a overinflated tire begin to bloat and bow in the middle. This is why pressure and wheel width being matched is so important.

The other big facter to this is compound. Most people think slicks are slicks.... (much as I did at one point) ALL SLICKS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL! MT has some good tech info on this. Flexier tires for Honda style(light/FWD) cars and stiffer tires for rear. So where does this put an AWD? I have been playing with this thought much myself lately. You do not want to put the weight of your vehicle on the rear (like a 4 link would). But at the same point, you do not want to keep the majority of the weight over the fronts. I have been working on keeping my car slightly higher in the front, DURING THE LAUNCH. Not so much as to take the grip off of the front.... But also, not to put too much on the rear.

Long story short, the tread compound is going to tell you alot about "how your tires" like to be launched.

This is the explained reason why I asked in my last post.

Fastest 3/S in the world ran 9.73 @ 151. This car is quick, but definitely not the "fastest in the world"

isn't that a dodge stealth es? the headlights look exactly like the dodge stealth es models did. Im just saying, looks like one exterior wise. Im not doubting its awd turbochargedness

if it is indeed a 3000gt, then it is the fastest 3000gt in the world. Now, if your talking about dodge stealths, those are a whole different bread of cars. LOL matt's car was a stealth, so i guess technically this could be the fastest 3000gt in the world. Just like the fastest plymouth laser in the world is probably a 9 second car. Even though shep ran a faster time, hes in a talon.

Good to hear!:thumb:

1.7 60' is definitely better. That car has got a lot of time left in it if you can get the 60' into the sub 1.6sec time. With as much side wall as you have... I would recommend marking the tires (if you haven't already) with a paint marker to make sure that the tire is not spinning on the rim. If this happens you could loose a bead and be in trouble. This is why people that are running very low pressures use studs or even bead locks.

I simply wrote my pressure # on the tire next to the valve stem. Simple way to see if this is going on and to remember what tire pressure you are using.:p

Did you try any lower pressures then that? I am curious if a 8 or 9 psi inflation pressure would work well for you. With that much sidewall on a 15" rim, if you are able to get those things to really bite down I think this would help.

One other thing I wanted to ask before I write a novel... I didn't get a good look at how the launch was, but it kinda sounded like a fairly slow spool. Are you using any kind of 2step or stutter box? If you are not please PM me and I will fill you in on what is working for me. I made 2 small launch changes and brought my car down from a 9.9, @ anything from a 141 trap to a 151 trap, down to a 9.5 in just launch changes.

Good work Man!!!

Jake

You need to look and see if the sidewalls are just VAGUELY starting to wrinkle at whatever pressure you have them set to. This is when the car is sitting still. Then adjust from there.

This will depend on tire sidewall, wheel size, car weight, etc.

I've had best luck on my FWD at about 11/12psi BEFORE the burnout. By the time I do a pass and get back to the lanes, it's about 14psi. This is on a 24.5x8.5x15, on a 7" wheel.

I noticed your sig, and thought you may want to change it. Seeing as how Matt Monett has the fastest 3S.

Matt Monett has the fastest STEALTH.
IPO has the fastest 3000GT.
Matt Monett has the fastest 3/S.

It's like saying Shep has the fastest Talon, and whoever else has the fastest Eclipse or Laser, yet Shep has the fastest ('true') DSM.
IPO is not claiming to have the fastest 3/S, let's not get confused guys. :thumb:

Congrats on the run and I look forward to watching you and the rest of the 3/S platform move forward to lower and lower 1/4 times.

They did break the record this week, switch to a auto and ran a 9.66@139 backed it up Sunday with a 9.68@141 and a 9.71@138 both with 1.385 60's.

So perhaps he was leaving it up there as a foreshadowing of what was going to happen??
J/K.... but either way, congrats to them.
