timing tool broke

you are talking about the white plastic piece? how did you manage to do that? If it fell inside then the only way is to get them pieces out and retime your engine. Good luck!

i would say try putting to nuts on it and tightening them to each other then use a wrench to turn out from the the lower nut like you you would remove a stud but from the pic the threads look pretty chewed up but its worth a try if you can get something on there

looks like your motor is not even in the bay. so, best best if putting two nuts on them doesn't work then a pair of vice grips would solve this problem.

welding it might be a little hard but is also a good idea if you can get it on there straight and centered

I hope you didn't strip the threads. I just don't see how you could've broken that off because you should be turning the tool in slowly. Good luck!

How I made mine: bought a length of 8mm rod, cut it down and shove on two 13mm nuts then played tug-of-war with two wrenches to really cinch up the nuts and made my sweet little adjuster tool that didn't even cost me 6 bucks.

Run the top nut down while simultaneously backing the bottom nut off, this forces them together and then when you have the tight together just back off the bottom nut with one wrench to back the hole rod out.

How did you put enough tension on that tool to break the hex off? Did you cross-thread it going in, or did you keep cranking when the tensioner was bottomed out?

I had used my P.O.S. light-duty all-thread rod with two nuts welded on the end for YEARS which is much less sturdy than the Jay Racing tool I now have and I've never run into such a situation.

Looks like the threaded bolt tool is already screwed. Here's how to get it out, take a small air powered cutoff tool, and cut it in half or as close to the broken side as possible. Then try backing the bolt out slowly with a pair of visegrips. You may have to cut part of the damaged end off to make it work.

...or you could just cut it off and forget about it. You really dont need to use that tool unless this is your first timing job. But lots of people have this happen because of rust in the hole. Have fun!
