IDK whats wrong here guys. Ive got a 98 eclipse rs n/t (420A) and just put a new complete head, and timing belt, water pump, and mechanical tensioner on it. My problem is whenever i set the car in time and get the tension applied to the belt, upon making two full rotations of my crankshaft, my intake cam is about two to three teeth advanced compared to my exhaust cam. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? have retimed this thing about 20 times in one day trying to fix this problem and every time it seems like the timing is right, until I make the two full rotations of the crank. Also, I have one other question. I was told that after changing my hydraulic tensioner out for the litens mechanical tensioner that there is no need for my timing cover anymore. Is this true, because I would much rather not have to put that thing back on in case I ever have to tear into it again.

Thanks guys!!!

It is HIGHLY recommended that you use a timing cover, in order to use the timing cover with the manual tensioner you have to "trim" the cover for the bracket of the manual tensioner. It sounds to me like your just not getting all the slack out of the belt. Also don't turn the crank counter clockwise to check your marks, only clockwise.
