hey i aint new to the import world just the eclipse world. I was replacing a head on a 97 gs because his timing belt broke and bent every intake valve in the head. I went and bought a used head that was in great condition. Put it al back together, and was ready to start it. This is aslo after i had to take the belt on and off about 5 or 6 times to get right. Well the cars cranks over for 30 seconds to a minute finally it starts. It was idling rough but then start to straighten up. So I gave it some gas and i heard a metal to metal noise and the car died that very second. :ohdamn: I took the head of checked valves and piston they where still in good shape. For some reason it broke the dowel pin off the exhaust cam. Bought a new set of cams and now have it back to tegether in time. BUT NOW I AM NOT GTTING ANY SPARK!!!!!!!!! All sensors are pluged in and have been tested. I am not geting any codes or anything out of it got plenty of fuel and spark. Will someone give me some advice:banghead:

You know you could have just bought a new dowel pin instead of buying new cams, right? My dowel pin broke off of one cam and I said F it, and I bought a whole recon'd engine, I'm not saying that you need to but I just didn't want to mess with it anymore. And your sure the valves are as straight as can be? And could you tell us what sensors you checked and the values you obtained from them.

Check the Cam sensor on the Drivers side of the head and make sure it is not cracked or broken. I had this same thing happen on my old 420A, where the dowel pin broke off, but for me it happened like 3 times in a row. But on the same car, I had no spark and from when I removed the cams, I somehow bumped the sensor and cracked it just a little bit and it didn't work. I replaced it and that fixed the problem. Also If I remember right, the cam sensor and one other plug are the same. You didn't happen to mix them up did you?

yeah it isnt getting spark the cam sensor is in good shape i always took it off before removing the cams i wish this thing had a disturbitor like a normal car

so you dont get spark in non of the cylinders???

the crank sensor gives spark in cylinder 1 and 4 the cam works 2 and 3

so i guess i should check both sensors again or just replace them?

is there anyting else i should check? I would apreicate it if some one would let me know what all controls spark on these cars

well when i can get a ride to the car i will what should it do when i unplug the cam sensor

check the resistance on your coil the non turbo are very simple to work on

my brother has a 99 gst with tons of stuff done to it i think is so much easier then this 420an/t

Are you getting power to the coil? If so, skip the rest of this paragraph. Check the centre pin on the coilpack plug for 12V+ when the ignition is on. note: The plugs that can get mixed up on the 420a are the VSS sensor and the coilpack sensor; for some reason they have similar plug ends. If there is no power here, check for power leading into the ASD. If there is power to the ASD, but no power from the ASD, check for power on the ASD trigger and ground on on it's opposite side. Continue from there, or let us know if you need more guidance.

You can scope the output of the cam and crank sensors and see that they match the scopes shown in this thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/420...90-setting-up-420a-crank-trigger-haltech.html

well when i can get a ride to the car i will what should it do when i unplug the cam sensor

if you unplug the cam you will get nothing bacause you already dont have spark .....but again if you unplug the cam sensor in a working car it will not give you spark in 2 and 3

my brother has a 99 gst with tons of stuff done to it i think is so much easier then this 420an/t

not even my tsi is so much more complex ### if the water temp sensor dosent work it wont turn on if i dosent spark in only 1 cylinder it wont turn on on an n/a you could have spark in only 2 cynlinders and it would still turn on the n/a dosent have a power transistor, you could have bent valves on an n/a and turn on and on and on...
