i recently got my timing belt done and was wondering theres chalk marks on the cam gears that met when the timing was done but after the car was driven and started several times the marks on the gears dont line up any more, is this normal? Are they supposed to line up after shutting off the engine? what could be the cause? Also the balance shafts are removed would this cause the very violent engine vibration or is it the timing, thanks

You have to rotate the crank 6 times for it to become aligned again. If your car actually skipped timing then you would be looking at a no start and maybe vent valves.

It is highly unlikely that the marks will line back up when you simply shut off the engine. You need to turn the engine clockwise by hand at the crank sprocket bolt to line them up.

engine vibration is due to timing being off if your cams aren't aligned sounds like the exhaust cam wasn't pushed down when putting on the belt, chances are your exhaust cam is the one that is one degree up. When putting on the belt you'll need to push down the exhaust cam one gear, when releasing the pin from the grenade pin and after starting the pin inside the grenade pin moves up and causes the timing on the exhaust cam to shot up one degree. causing your car to be out of time.

point blank redo your timing, there is a write up by I believe blckspoolin is his sn excellent write up.
