Timing marks: sprocket or pulley?

I'm timing my car and ran into a snag. I got the cams and crank sprocket aligned perfectly with the marks, but when I put on the crank pulley, it's showing my timing to be at 0* instead of 5*, where it should be. I've rotated the crank many times, and it always ends up the same way. How is this possible? What am I doing wrong?

Here are a couple of pics showing the pulley and cams in time. Unfortunately, I don't have time to snap a pic of the pulley with the timing cover on, but trust me, it lines up with the 0* mark.

That would be your ignition timing marks... you are hopefully trying to get your mechanical (valve and piston) timing right with the cam, oil, and crank sprocket marks. Don't worry about ignition timing until you get your mechanical timing first... 2 way different things.:hmm::aha:

I believe the computer will adjust the timing to put it at 5*.

Your crank pulley should show it at 0*, and once you start it, if you throw a timing light on it and ground out whatever pin (don't remember) that's when you will be showing 5*.
 
The crank pulley should be at the T when you're setting the mechanical timing / mechanical timing is lined up. It should read at 5* with a timing light when the engine is running and you're doing a base ignition timing test. Test it out and see.
