I have been having low vacuum/diesel sounding idle since I got the talon running. At idle ~700 rpm I am getting between 10 and 12 in/hg. I'm not sure that my camshaft timing is right so I've attached pictures. I am hoping that somebody can let me know if I did them right. I did a compression test a while ago and had 160s across the board.

I discovered a pretty bad boost leak at the #4 fuel injector today and I'm getting a new seal ordered. If my timing looks good then I hope it's the leak at the injector. The injector leak bleeds 10 psi of air out in about 6 seconds. I'd appreciate any help!

Both pics are at TDC on the crankshaft.

Your timing doesnt look right. It looks like those cam gears were out of a junkyard and have the whiteout on them. A usually good place where major vaccum leaks happen on DSMs is by the throttle body check the gasket thats between the manifold and the Throttle Body.

Along with your teeth assuming they are not rigged, you should have nipples on each cam gear at 12 o clock. Also your base timing could be wrong.

Yeah I put the white paint on the timing marks but somebody else marked all over the rest. The car is sluggish from a stop when not in boost. When the turbo kicks in it pulls decently but that may just be because the higher rpms.

When I did the timing I was trying to line up all 4 marks on the camshafts but apparently I need to take a straight-edge and line up just the two inner cam marks?

The throttle body didn't bubble with soapy water so I'm hoping this injector is my last major boost leak.

Is something wrong with the sprocket teeth? Yes, the dowels are at 12 o'clock. The ignition timing is at 5 btdc but it never smooths out the idle.

The car also takes a while to start when cold and usually dies but always starts up on the second crank which I know can't be right.

Tell your buddy to pick up a shop manual or use the chilton's book if you have one. There are more timing components other than the top. There are three more places you need to check your timing, they are located around the area of your water pump and alternator. Its hard to get to but easy to time once you're there.

As far as cold start its not too big of a deal my car doesnt like a cold start too well, just let the car run and the temp rise. Hope this helps.

10psi in 6 seconds from an injector oring is pretty steep, thing has to be hard as a rock. Make sure you replace all four while you're in there

I got the crankshaft mark as close as I could. It still wasn't perfectly centered in the timing notch but on the edge of the timing notch if that makes sense. It doesn't have balance shafts. So I guess the concensus is my camshaft timing is wrong?

I've been getting mixed info. do I need to line up only the center camshaft timing marks with a straight edge or the center two plus the far right notch on the cams? I was trying to do all four notches the first times I kept redoing it.
