Curious if anyone else has had this happen to them. Me and a buddy are putting a new timing belt on my 1G, Well we get everything on and start up the engine. Next thing we hear all kinds of squeeking, like belts rubbing. Well we pull the PS belt and ALT belts off (there new too) and its still screaming like a deamon. We pull the timing shielf off, and the timing belt off and start the car again. The Tensioner pully was not moving (problem found) it seams as though the tensioner pully was set to deep in the case, and when we turned the motor over it got wegged against the block and stoped moving. When it stoped the timing belt just started rubbing and squeeling. Timing belt is screwed, and the pully is is screwed. The pully got so hot is has blue and purple heat markes on the inner bearing. Measured the old one to the new one, and the bearing is set about 1/16 of an inch deeper in the case then the old one, this caused it to get against the block. Anyone else ever run into this?
