Ok I have 72k on my car and I think its time to get a new timing belt, I got a couple of questions though. Do you have two belts to buy for it? How much would the final cost be if you took it in to get it done?

Yes you have 2 belts to buy unless you get rid of the BS at the same time then you will only need one belt(timing belt). If you are going to keep your BS then you will also need to buy the bs belt. Remember when doing the timing belt job get all new pulleys and a new tensioner. Stick with OEM parts on this job. Most shops i believe charge around 300-350 for a job like that.

Replace the Timing belt and the balance shaft belt. While you are at it, replace the water pump, idler pulley and tensioner pulley... Might as well replace the auto tensioner too, as I have seen a failed tenioner kill a motor. Go to Slow Boy Racing and buy the timing kit. Its well worth the money, and it uses all MITSU parts. DO NOT skimp on timing components.

Timing belt and Counterbalance shaft belt... Also referred to as A and B. (oops- internet is slow) Ditto...

300 bones! If you find that deal I say take it! You have to be talking about parts only or labor only.

You are looking at about 300 in parts and another 300 in labor (5 hours minimum). AMS used to advertise 600 or 700 to do it.

You don't want your local coverall wearing highschool dropout mechanic doing this job either. WAY too many horror stories of a newb taking their car for timing belt job to someone who "has done timing belts on other cars before, how different could it be?"

Do it yourself or be prepared to cough up serious dough at a reputable place like a Tuners vendor or Satan.

well actually i got a quote from a guy who has been working on cars for 30 years, he is gonna do it for 300, just timing belts

Be careful, I know people have been bit by this too. So what if he's been working on Corvettes or Mustangs for 30 years, this is a completely different kind of setup. But if you trust him, just make sure you replace EVERYTHING you should: belts, tensioners, water pump, etc.

Good luck!

oh yeah and what does bs stand for
bs = bullshit

j/k
balance shaft. most recommend removing it. saves on having to change TWO belts every 60k.

oh yeah and I do trust him as his work besides like most mechanics he has insurnce and like a 1 year warrantly on stuff like tha so if it ended up messing my engine up he would have to pay for it, thanks guys youve been alot of help.

I recently had my water pump replaced. While the motor was apart I went ahead and had them replace the timing belt (first time replaced the belt car has 106,000mi)

6 hours labor @$65.00 hr = $390.00

Parts $237.18

Grand total with tax = $658.54 :beatentodeath:
