Hi, Im about to do the timing belt for regular maintenance on my 90 TSi.

Here are the parts i have in my shopping cart at slowboy racing, I have done some search for parts that i need, as well as looked in a manual i have, and on the FAQ, as i can tell i have everything i need.

Timing Belt - MD326059 - $75
Balance Shaft Belt - MD182295 - $29.50
Timing Belt Idler Pulley - MD129355 - $30
Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley - MD156604 - $35
Balance Belt Tensioner - MD115976 - $35
Timing Belt Tensioner - MD164533 - $87
Water Pump - MD972052 - $130

Im guessing the water pump comes with a gasket?

I actually got the T-Belt, Idler pulley, Tensioner Pulley, and Tensioner as a kit.. saved $7.

Anyways, Does it look like ill have everything ill need to do the regular maintenance work on that side of the engine? The engine is out on the ground, so i want to do everything on that side now well its easier for me.

Thankyou.

I just want to say, id much rather fab up exhaust and charge piping, then all this stuff, such a pita to get the parts and figure out exactly what i need etc, but its just as important!

Let me know if you find out any other parts that are needed. I'm in the same position as you, this is my first time buying all the parts to do a timing belt. You might want to check out jnztuning for your parts. I'm looking at it right now and the OEM timing belt from them is like $20 cheaper.

Heres a couple parts at JNZTuning.com. As you can see they are cheaper than slowboy. I'v bought a few items from them before and they are A+ quality.

Water pump - $108
Timing belt - $57
Balance shaft belt -$28
Timing belt tensioner pulley - $24
Timing belt Tensioner - $73

Thanks, Yeah i noticed that extremepsi.com is cheaper as well.

My order including shipping was 810 instead of 750 with slowboy, but with xtreme psi i also had a master cylinder in my order which is worth 112.

So its over 50 saved at xtreme, ill price it there also, thankyou.

EDIT:

Yes they are a HECK of alot cheaper! I was able to find everything except the headgasket and exhaust manifold gaskets i need, they only have OEM, not the MLS ones.

Doing a BSE on an engine while still in the car is the biggest PITA, especially if you don't have all the proper tools.

While you have the car this far torn apart you should (IMO) replace the cam seals (2), crank seal, oil pump shaft seal and the balance shaft seal (if you don't remove it).

Of course check the arm that the auto tensioner pushes against (especially as old as the engine is) as it can wear a dimple into it similar to the clutch fork/pivot ball scenerio.

Yes, the water pump will come with the gasket and an o-ring for the water pipe.

Thanks, i will order the seals as well.

Just some info for you guys.

extremepsi was considerably cheaper then slowboy, but JNZ blew them away.

for the following parts w/o shipping.

master, slave, clutch fork, tow, balance shaft belt, balance belt tensioner, water pump, timing belt, tbelt tensioner, tbelt tensioner pulley, tbelt idler pulley.

it was $647 from extremepsi and only 556.81 from JNZ.

However, i cant find the fulcrum at JNZ, so i will just order it with my mls headgasket and exhaust manifold gasket at extremepsi.

I will also add the gaskets suggest to the order at JNZ, cam seals, crank seal, oil pump shaft seal, balance shaft seal.

Im guessing well i have the flywheel off (im doing a clutch as well) that i should do the rear main and check the oil gallery plugs? Since im in there anyways.

Can anyone else think of anything else i should do as far as regular maintenance?

Im trying to get this stuff ordered tonight, since all im doing right now is waiting, but i dont want to miss anything!

Thanks Everyone!!

Thanks again, i will be sure to replace everything.

Yeah i agree, i just spent $850 on OEM parts! All maintenance parts other then the mls headgasket and copper exhaust manifold gasket, but then again, once everything is on and changed, it will be good for another 4 years (i wont put 60k on it in 4years).

The only parts I wasnt able to find at JNZ was the balance belt tensioner, and the balance shaft seal, i will just buy these from the dealer when i purchase all the parts for my clutch pedal assembly. I found the balance shaft tensioner at Extremepsi but i thought i had seen it at JNZ (turns out it was just for the 1.8) but i had already placed my order at Extremepsi so i dont want to make another order (ups has min fee's on international packages), oh well, even if their twice the price at the dealer it will still be cheaper then the minimum brokerage fee ups charges on international packages.

I also got my act 2600 kit today with my streetlite flywheel, only had to pay $11.08 worth of duty on that ;)

^^^ Try calling JNZ, I can almost garantee they have the parts you are looking for, there website can be kind of confussing at times. I'v had the same problem before couldnt find it on there website, called them and they found the part I was looking for right away.
