Im doing the timing belt and ran into a small hurdle along the way. The car is a 95 talon awd I did everything acording to the manual so far.

I removed the plug from the back side of the engine and slid the screwdriver in then took off the oil pump sprocket to put a new seal in it. Once I put the sprocket back on I realized the timing marks the book says are correct do not line up and I cant rotate it to where they do line up because the screwdriver stops it but that would mean that its in the right posistion I thought anyways I could use some help what I think might have something to do with it was I tried to break the balance shaft sprocket bolt loose with an impact and the belt broke I dont know if it spun alot or what happend.

Just tighten it down and turn it till the marks line up. Make sure it's in phase. I'm guessing the screw driver isn't actually in the hole of the balance shaft but keeping it from turning another way.

Thanks I must not have checked to make sure the timing was on at the oil sprocket before i pulled the sprocket off then realized when I put it back on it was off in the first place thanks. It was out of phase, all back together now tho gonna try and finish it off tomorrow.

1 More question I had to rotate it 360 one way whie not moving anything else then it dropped ccw then I was able to stick a screwdriver and lock it and it was on time. The oil pump timing mark only lines up every six revolutions is in in time with the crank every two? Or is it different everytime the crank goes tdc?

I'm not sure that I clearly understand your question. But when the crank is positioned with cylinder #1 at TDC (you can remove the spark plug and use a pencil, etc. to confirm) then the oil pump sprocket should be aligned with it's timing mark. Don't worry about the other times that it lines up when rotating the crank.

Since the oil pump sprocket moved CCW it sounds like you have it correct. But if you want to be completely sure then stick the screwdriver back in the back of the block. It should go in at least a couple of inches. If it only goes in a little ways then the rear balance shaft/oil pump is not in phase.

The easiest way to check if a oil pump shaft is in phase is just to rotate the arrow mark on the oil pump gear to 12 o'clock and let it go. It should either fall CCW or CW. If it falls CCW towards 9 o'clock, then it is in phase, if not, then it is out of phase. In that case, just rotate it another 360* and 'retest' it.

I just dont understand how It was out while the other marks were in and then I turn it 360 and the marks line up. How many different posistions can the oil pump sprocket/counter balance shaft shaft be in when the crank is at TDC for #1

I think only 2 positions.

I had mine out of phase, and car vibrated like hell.
I just spun it around, and lined it up.

but do the screw driver check,
If it all lines up and you stick the screw driver in the hole and it goes in an inch or 2 like posted above, your fine.
If not, then spin it around so the oil sprocket is out of phase, loosen the belt, spin the sprocket, so it lines up with everything, check the hole again.
Should be better
