my timing belt cover is cracked from my strutbar.. is it safe to run w/o one?

Nope. See if you can repair it, and move your strut bar. If not, get a new cover.

I'm not doubting you in any way but if it's the top section of the timing belt cover how is it not safe to run without when everyone with adjustable gears don't have one on there? Just a question that im curious about.

yes please give me a detailed answer on why its a bad idea

Well some of the cars are track only. In that case one might think that its not merited. But what would you rather do: Show off your shiny cam gears, or risk a bolt coming lose or a rock flipping up and making you rebuild your head and possibly your block....... I guess the decision is up to you.

Also, if you did have adjustable gears, its not like you adjust them so often that you would not want it on. Its only a couple of seconds to remove it.

you dont want to take the chance of anything shooting up from the road, or even something breaking and falling into the timing belt, or you can say bye bye motor::nono:
i ran without one for about 3 months with no problems, but its better to be safe then sorry, plus you can find one on ebay for about $10 plus shipping,

If it is looks that you are worried about, just paint your timing cover.

how do all these honda guys go without one?

I see alot of 420a's without it too...

Because they don't care about their engines well being. To them, seeing those cam gears when they pop their hood is worth the risk of damaging their engine.

I really don't understand the motivation of running without one.

I thought about cutting the cover on the side where the cam gears show and plastic welding a piece of lexan/clear plastic onto the cover. Then paint. That way it would be protected and could still bling if you want it to. If someone could make a whole clear cover I could see them selling like hotcakes! Leave the cover on. :nono:

Run it however you like but I would suggest doing a search on people who had trashed the engine because they droped a bolt in there while working on the car. In any case, we certainly do not need another timing belt cover thread.
