Hey all, im about to drop a butt load of cash into the car and was wanting alittle advice first. My goals are like this, i LLLLOOOVVEEEE autocross and roadracing and i wanna be able to do really good in those type of things cause i just recently got into SCCA, I like drag racing also but im not so worried about having a super fast 10 second drag DSM, im more worried about having a daily driveable pump gas, 93octane, car that i can take out to SCCA events and do really good and then maybe run some decent times at the local drag strip on occasion. I know all about supporting mods for different turbos and all that and fuel upgrades and dataloging/tuning and blah blah blah. The thing is i cant really decide what frigin turbo i wanna go with. Im wanting something that donst have terrible lag so i can autocross well and all that stuff but i also want somthing with good power and im thinking a 16g just wont cut it for me power wise. Im not sure if a EVO3 16g would be good enough or not ive heard its good for like 400HP crank, and thats just not enough of a ceiling for me. So i started looking into t3/t4 hybrid type deal.....the thing is there so damn many of them and so many options for them that it gets me all confused. Ive heard alot about 50 trims being good for what im looking for but i have no idea where to shop for one or how to peice together a 50 trim that would fit my needs. What kinda spool up does this 50 trim i keep on reading about have and what about the other options for the turbo and where should i look for one?????.....someone help  is there a better turbo that would sute my needs? or am i on the right track?

aaawww man that sux, but yeah i cant have a turbo that lags like crazy. anyone else have opinions?

what about something like this-
PTE GT30R Ball Bearing bolt on Turbocharger $1150

Supports 500hp. Currently in testing on two cars. Spools much faster than the PTE 50 or GT32. Water cooled bearing housing requires a different install kit with Stainless steel braided water lines and AN fittings

what kinda spool up would that thing have????

ack theres to many turbos out there.......

I really want a fairly large turbo but i dont want something that lags so much its only good for drag racing.......theres gotta be something thatll fit my needs bigger then a evo 16g....or is there??

I doubt a t3/t4 is going to suit your needs if you're into autocrossing, the lag is just too much for that sort of driving. Your best bet for SCCA is to stay small, big28, 16g etc....

Agree.

If you were looking at drag than the t3/t4 setups are not a bad deal if you have some wicked magic to spool it up. Cource racing would be fun;) AutoX leaves you waiting around forever:(

Edit: FP and AGP have some nice setups.... Do you really want a 60lb min turbo though?

LoL im sorry man, im sorta newbie, im not sure what you mean by 60lb min turbo.

Ill just take a guess and think it has something to do with the turbos size, so yeah i really really really wanna make more power then a evo 16g can make but i like the spool up of a small turbo.....lemme ask this.......whats the fastest spooling 500-600 crank HP turbo out there for us, er well it dosnt have to be the fastest, just one of the faster ones.

I'm not quite sure that "fast spooling" and "500-600 hp turbo" can be used in the same sentance. If you're new to this car thing, set your goals somewhere a bit more realistic and work from there.

I agree whole heartedly. You are looking for lots of power which means big turbo, but you are also looking for quick spooling, which means small turbo. You’re battling the age old turbo problem.

What about going custom with a twin turbo? You could get a small turbo to spool quick and get a big turbo to punch out the power.

Just a thought.

if you dont mind me asking.... how much do you plan on spending? if you plan to race on track, your gonna need quiet a pricey suspension.

Ive already figured out the supension stuff so no worries there, im fine with the stock stuff now anyway, ive been able to hold my own in autocross with it a few times and this region of the SCCA only roadraces like twice a year and im not gonna be doing that anytime soon since i dont meet the membership length requirments and stuff. I think im gonna sacrafice the good spool up for the power and just work with it. I just dont wanna sacrafice to much spool. im looking for more power then a small turbo can give me so thats just out of the question, i could really use some help on picking a turbo that can give me more then 400 crank HP and still spool up sorta good, i know it wont be as good as a small turbo though i just dont want one thats essecially lagy. Help? I have no Idea what kind of results the different combinations of t3/t4 stuff yeild and i dunno if theres a better style turbo out there for me, like maybe this GT ball bearing stuff or w/e, i really just dunno........can someone help???

Yep that FP turbo is tempting. I'm a big advocate of a well intercooled B28 for autoX SM competition and yes even Road Race/Solo 1. Like you i'm looking for more total HP and remain competive. I have barley tapped the b28's capacity and finished in the Top3 in 2 SM State Championships soo its got it if you got it. (hell I usually only run 15 psi if that on course) Its difficult to keep things cool with high HP turbo cars in a Road Race/Solo One Environment. I know several DSM's that run GT2 that use 20G just fine, and countless support systems to keep things cool. Dry Sump/Water Injection etc. etc. They run with Vipers but at a $Cost$ The 2544 would suffer AutoXing compared to the B28 (depending on the course design) but would be more efficient and powerfull at lower boost levels on a Road Course. I love my B28 but need pretty sticky tires to deal with the explosive power in the low RPM range. I can say a little Lag would help my car open diffed FWD tremendously coming out of sweepers and such. I've learned a good bit about throttle modulation in the past years (but thats another thread)

I say economically the 20G or certainly the 2544 if you got the $$. I moving Away from AutoX and more to the Road Race side myself. I see the 2544 in my future. :D

i think a 20g would be plenty for me power wise, if i could have a turbo that could put out that sorta power and still spool good i would be happy. Even if it was just close to the power of the 20g i would be happy and i dont mind paying alot.
