If you guys read my thread about seafoam, I think I've figured out my blue smoke problem. I let the car idle for a bit and get nice and smokey then I shut it off and pulled a plug. To my surprise blue smoke started coming from the cylinder out of the plug hole. I'm guessing this means that the rings are completely shot. I did a comp. test today also. My compression went down 5 in each. so it was a complete 170 across the board.

I was looking at the engine rebuild kit that machv offers, is there anything else I should get for the rebuild such as crank, cams, valvetrain?
 
Consistent reading of 170 across the board doesn't really show that the rings are shot... That is still pretty good. It's probably oil leaking from your head. Might just want to pull the head off and have a look
 
So far I've compiled a little list. Please feel free to add anything you think would be necessary or very wise.Complete gasket kit, pistons and rings, main and rod bearings, thrust bearing, timing belt, balance shaft bearing, expansioner plugs, oil pump, timing belt tensioner, arp head studs, valve guides, valve seals, valve stem seals, dual valve springs, spring seat base. I'm wanting my 7 bolt to be able to handle around 7600-7800 RPMS and maybe a 50 shot of nitrous....

I agree. Id say probably from a valve seat or face. Try pulling the head and taking a peak.
 
Im goona have to agree with elfroggo on this one. Smoke outa the plug hole wouldent have anything to do the the rings being bad. And if there completly shot you'd wouldent get 17 accros the board.
 
Well either way, I've got to dig into it. My luck, as shitty as it is, as soon as I got this problem taken care of the motor would then pop. I just talked to one of my friends who said he'd drop my motor for me for free and as long as I provided the parts, he knows someone who would build it and do a 100% satisfaction guarentee'ed job for 250, including stripping it down and reasembling it and putting it back into time. Provided I would still have to pay for the machine work.

Out of pure honesty, would you guys suggest bore it over. .020 or just get the walls honed?
 
Whether or not you get the block honed mainly depends on how much wear or damage the clinder walls have. The machinest should be able to tell you if you should get it bored or honed.

The increased displacement from boring out the block is very very small, so you won't really see a performance difference from that alone.

Of course boring it over is also more expensive than just a hone, as you still have to hone the cylinder walls after boring.

For the price you put there though, Free and 250, sounds like a pretty good deal to get your motor freshened up/built. :)
 
I don't think the problems here are the rings, I suspect it has to do with your seafoam removing gunk that was keeping your already not so healthy valve seals sealed, but it looks like you want a rebuilt either way but you should know you most likely will still be smoking if you don't pin point where the problem is.
